***************

The hot baseball player I’m forced to stay with for my best friend’s wedding is off limits.

Remy Winfield has more muscles than manners, and he’s on a mission to get me into bed by way of the filthiest mouth I’ve ever wanted to kiss. He doesn’t care about my long time crush or my certainty that we’re finally about to happen.

Remy’s sure I’ll break first and kiss him, and he’ll tease me to the limit to make sure I do. I might be a Lady, but I can still play his dirty little game. It’s perfectly safe, totally harmless.

Until I fall for him.

Suddenly, Mr. Long-Time Crush doesn’t matter at all.

And my best friend can never know.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I’ve missed Staci Hart, and was so glad to see her return to the romance community with Wild Card! Remy and Jessa’s story was somehow both filthy and sweet, and I binged it in a day thanks to a power outage and a rainstorm!

Remy is a brutish monster of a man and Jessa is a prim and proper British lady. Like, a legit lady. I loved how he called her Duchess just to get under her skin. Nothing about them should have clicked, but yet everything did. The fake dates between them all started as Jessa’s plan to make her longtime crush jealous during the wedding festivities of her best friend/Remy’s cousin. And somewhere along the way, the snarky comments and fake kisses between these two just bloomed into something magical!

Remy’s had a bit of a troubled past, and has been something of a playboy since getting his heart broken. I love seeing a playboy fall hard and fast, and he was such a cinnamon roll hero around Jessa! Meanwhile, her relationship with Remy allowed Jessa to grow a backbone and break out of the gilded cage her prim-and-proper parents have kept her in. Both characters showed huge growth and really brought out the best in one another.

Now his cousin/her best friend Cass… WOW, what a plot twist at the end! I can’t wait to see what comes next for her!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

T. Leigh Turner is a new-to-me author, and I’m so glad I got to read Stranded on Second! It was quite an entertaining story between baseball star Preston and Hollywood’s Sweetheart Ivory, an actress who happens to be the daughter of his coach.

In the days before the global pandemic shut down the world, Preston and Ivory both take a trip to a remote resort in Belize, each needing an escape from their daily lives. They cross paths at the resort bar and there is an instant attraction, but they just say farewell and call it a night. But as they keep running into each other, they strike up a bit of a friendship… and that grows even more as the pandemic spreads and they are forced to leave the resort and take shelter at a private villa until they can fly back home to the U.S.

I loved the connection between Preston and Ivory! I loved the setting of this story and how they were in this idyllic bubble. Preston was such a cinnamon roll, and I loved how attentive and supportive he was of Ivory… especially when she was hesitant to pursue something. He was just so patient! Sigh. And Swoon. I really liked getting to know vulnerable, insecure Ivory, the side she showed Preston that the rest of the world didn’t see behind her Hollywood’s Sweetheart facade.

Stranded on Second was swoony, charming, romantic… It was so well-written and I enjoyed all the big and small moments between Preston and Ivory!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: More Than Write by Jami Rogers

More Than Write by Jami Rogers is now live!

The sexy single dad next door is also my best friend’s brother.

And now I’m playing nanny for his son over the summer.

It’s a good thing I’ve never been into grumpy men because Simon Stone holds the record.

If I were smart, I’d have never taken the job for Simon. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and well, I’d have taken any job that distracted me from my personal life. Plus, it meant not going home to an empty house, and that was really all I ever wanted.

What I didn’t plan for, however, was for Simon’s son to tell his football team that his father and I were dating or for Simon to need me to go with it once his own mother found out. Let’s not forget the time Simon kissed me one night in a dark bedroom, or when he watched me through my bedroom window as I… well, I didn’t plan for a lot of things. Falling for a man who swears he’ll never love again is at the top of the list.

Most of all, I didn’t plan for how life would be at the end of the summer when I went back to my empty house and my lonely life. All it took was one summer for me to fall for Simon Stone, but as it seems, if I’m not careful, that might be all I ever get.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I enjoyed Simon and Greer so much! More Than Write is a feel-good, no-fuss, no-angst romance that checks off all kinds of tropes: Neighbors, single dad, best friend’s brother, grumpy/sunshine, nanny, and fake relationship.

Unlucky in love Greer decides to take off the summer from dating. As all of her friends have paired off, she’s feeling kind of lonely. So the timing is perfect when her grumpy next-door neighbor Simon — who is her best friend’s older brother — is on a deadline with his next romance novel and needs some help managing his house and shuttling his kid around to various sports camps. Greer gets to hang out with Grey, and Simon gets the help he desperately needs. As Greer spends more time with father and son, she not only builds a lovely friendship with Grey, but a sizzling chemistry forms between her and Simon.

I loved watching these two fall for each other. Simon lost the woman he thought he’d spend the rest of his life with, so he was very hesitant to let himself feel anything for Greer other than friends-with-benefits. And she knows his reservations, but falls for him anyway. It was a joy to see Simon realize just how deep his feelings for her run, despite his best intentions.

More Than Write is a standalone within a connected series, each book featuring a different male romance writer. I love that concept! This is the first book of the series that I’ve read, and I will have to go back and read the others now!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Surprised & Sacked by Gina Azzi

SURPRISED AND SACKED

Gina Azzi

Release Date: February 5

Knoxville Coyotes rookie West Crawford is a celebrated, lightning-fast football god on the field. Off the field? He’s my ex-boyfriend and greatest heartache.

I didn’t think long-distance would break us when West was drafted to Tennessee, and I was called home to Paris for a family emergency. But it did.

Fast-forward six months and West is playing in the Superbowl, I’m rooting for him to win, and our worlds re-collide.

Celebrating West’s success is supposed to be a one-night, free-for-all that ends with closure. Instead, it births a new beginning. Literally.

I’m having a baby with my ex, our lives are still thousands of miles apart, and nothing has changed. I mean, except the obvious.

Between West’s flourishing career, my familial responsibilities abroad, and a positive pregnancy test that surprises us both, our relationship is bound to be sacked before it has the chance to soar.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Surprised & Sacked is the second book in the Knoxville Coyotes series, and is a second-chance, surprise pregnancy romance for West and Nova. They reconnect for one night after the Coyotes win the Super Bowl, and while it’s clear they still love one another, their lives are in different places now. But fate has other plans for them when Nova discovers she is pregnant…

I enjoyed West and Nova’s reunion. It was clear that she wanted more than just to be West’s WAG, and he went above and beyond to prove to Nova how much she meant to him. West didn’t have the best childhood, so he has some concerns about whether or not he has what it takes to be a good dad; I really enjoyed that added dimension to his character.

I had an issue with this story, however. Their breakup happened several months before the Super Bowl; they just kind of grew apart when Nova went back home to Paris to help with her family’s vineyard after her father got ill. I wish that that had been a “show” rather than a “tell” because I felt like I was missing backstory.

But overall, I enjoyed this story. It’s pretty low angst, and I read it easily on a rainy afternoon. West is one of Cohen’s teammates from book 1, so there is that connection, and although I haven’t read Gina Azzi’s rockstar series, Nova is friends with the band from those books.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Written in the Scars by Adriana Locke

WRITTEN IN THE SCARS by Adriana Locke

🎤 Narrated by Emma Wilder & Lance Greenfield

Listen Now:

Falling in love is easy.

Falling out of love is the hardest thing in the world.

And Elin and Ty Whitt are terrible at it.

Life’s not always easy. Love’s not for the faint of heart. But with life comes lessons and Ty and Elin have the scars to prove it. But it’s their love written in those scars that will hold them together … or break them apart.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

This book was a doozy! Ty and Elin’s story was a rollercoaster of epic proportions. It was emotional, raw, and hauntingly beautiful as Adriana Locke explores how this couple grew apart and then repaired their relationship.

If you are looking for a light and fluffy read, Written in the Scars is not it. If you want a story that is going to elicit some big emotions, have you crying and yearning for the main characters to just work things out… then this is it. Ty and Elin have so much love for each other, but something was broken in their marriage. And it is a long, hard road that they travel in trying to repair it.

Narrators Emma Wilder and Lance Greenfield did a beautiful job in bringing this story to life.

Never fall in love with a client.

One of the cardinal rules of matchmaking that I was positive I’d never break.

That is until Nathan Wilder walked into Love Moore Matchmaking Agency, needing my help to find him the one

A tall order to ask since he was the most hated man in the NHL.

Right from the bat, every fiber of my being told me he’d be trouble.

He wasn’t looking for love.

It was all a PR stunt to clean up his image so he could keep playing for The Boston Guardians.

But there was something in his sad eyes that just pulled me in, forcing me to agree to this whole charade.

Little did I know that in my quest to find him love, I’d be the one falling head over heels for him.

How can I possibly find Nate his perfect match when I believe him to be mine?

SUNNY SHELLY’S REVIEW: 5 Stars

Perfect Pucking Match is the first book I’ve read by Ivy Fox and I absolutely loved everything about Nathan and Lottie’s romance!!

These two characters had such a great connection from the get-go. I loved how Lottie saw something in Nate that many people overlooked. Rather than just seeing the brute, she saw a vulnerable and lonely soul, and that spoke to her — even though she was in a long-distance, long-term relationship, she was very lonely herself when it came to the day-to-day affection of a partnership.

And poor Nate was such a troubled soul. There is such trauma in his background and he is just kind of fumbling through life despite his professional success. Lottie is a balm to his soul, and I loved how these two established a friendship and fell in love.

ABOUT IVY FOX

Ivy Fox is a USA Today bestselling author of angst-filled, contemporary romances, some of them with an unconventional #whychoose twist.

So don’t be surprised if you pick up a book of hers and find out that her heroine ends up with more than one guy.

Wink wink.

Just like her, Ivy lives a pretty chill life, surrounded by her two most important men—her husband and son. The only thing that keeps her up at night are the fictional characters in her head that can’t seem to shut up until she writes their story.

But she’s gotten used to them running the show and is all too happy to oblige.

Books and romance are her passion.

A strong believer in happy endings and that love will always prevail in the end, both in life and in fiction.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Protecting Piper by Jennifer Bonds

Protecting Piper by Jennifer Bonds is now live!
Brady Vaughn is sweet, sexy, and totally into me…

Too bad I don’t have time for distractions, especially the relentless football player kind. If I want to graduate next semester, I need to focus on student teaching, not on my love life. But Brady’s incredibly hard to resist. Not only is he the most gorgeous guy I’ve ever laid eyes on, he has the personality to match. He’s sweet. Attentive. Real.

When he crashes my pole dancing class, swearing he’ll return every week until I give him a shot, I’m certain he’ll be the first to crack. But with each passing week, he’s melting my defenses, and it’s getting harder and harder to resist his quiet charm.

The only problem? He doesn’t know about my side hustle as a cam girl, and I plan to keep it that way.

As much as I like Brady, I can’t risk my future—or my career in education—on anything less than a sure thing.

If life has taught me anything, it’s that there are no guarantees, and if my secret gets out, I’m not the only one with something to lose…

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

Jennifer Bonds is a new-to-me author; I liked Protecting Piper, but didn’t completely love it. I adored Brady, but never quite warmed up to Piper and I’m not sure why. i loved that she embraced her curves as a camgirl, but there was just something about her as the fmc that I couldn’t connect with.

Brady and Piper come from different backgrounds (he has a tight-knit family and having grown up on a farm is a bit naive while she has a complicated relationship with her mom and is more wordly), but it works for them. I bought into the instant connection between them, and felt that the story explored the progress of their relationship nicely.

Having not read the other books in this series, I felt a bit disconnected from Brady’s friends, and felt like there is a lot more to the bigger picture that I was unaware of based on the previous books. But overall, this was an entertaining story.

Meet Jennifer Bonds
Jennifer Bonds writes sizzling contemporary romance with sassy heroines, sexy alphas, and a whole lot of mischief. She’s a sucker for enemies-to-lovers stories, laugh out loud banter, and over the top grand gestures. Jennifer lives in Pennsylvania, where her overactive imagination and weakness for reality TV keep life interesting. She’s lucky enough to live with her own real life hero, two adorable (and sometimes crazy) children, and one rambunctious K9. Sunny Shelly’s Review: Rumor Has It by Kat Savage

Let’s celebrate! It’s release day for RUMOR HAS IT by Kat Savage!#OneClickNow https://books2read.com/rumorhasitnovel

From USA Today Bestselling Author Kat Savage comes Rumor Has It, a small-town, friends-to-lovers romantic comedy, full of laugh-out-loud moments and enough steam to get the wrinkles out of your shirt.

ELLIE
I’ve been friends with Theo Jameson since he defended my honor in third grade. He’s my bro, my bestie, my knight in shining flannel. But after an unpleasant night at the local bar, I’m experiencing feelings I don’t even understand. Not to mention, everyone in town seems to be whispering about it.What they’re saying isn’t true, but I find myself wishing it was. I keep daydreaming about him. about us.

THEO
The moment I rescued Ellie Hayes from uncertain danger in elementary school, I knew my life would never be the same. She’s my best friend, my confidant, my hero. She’s not one to make trouble but that all changed at our favorite watering hole. I’ve never seen her that mad and maybe it’s just me, but it was hot.Now I got friends asking me how long we’ve been secretly going out and everytime I deny it, I wish I didn’t have to.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I was a big fan of Kat Savage’s Men of Birds Eye series, so I was excited to dive into a new series. And Rumor Has It did not disappoint. It’s a fast-paced best friends-to-lovers story about a quirky, curvy heroine and her best guy friend, who has kinda always been in love with her. After things go sideways one night out at the local bar, Ellie starts looking at Theo differently.

This book was a refreshing story as Theo and Ellie cross over from being friends who love each other to being *in* love with one another.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Bittersweet by Carrie Aarons

Bittersweet by Carrie Aarons is now live!

The last place Cassandra Mauer ever thought she’d step foot again was Hope Crest, Pennsylvania. But once the world famous actress gets the call that her estranged father has passed, and his only living relative will need to settle his estate, she finds herself back in the small town that sent her running once upon a time.

Little do her dilapidated childhood home and her father’s affairs know, Cassandra was in need of a project exactly like this to distract from the glamorous life she no longer wants or recognizes. That is, until she bumps into the man whose family is considered Main Street royalty.

Patrick Ashton is the boy next door, a Hope Crest celebrity, and one of the heirs to the most famous restaurants on the East Coast. He has no problem reminding her just how much the town hated her old man … and in turn her for sharing his last name. But when he realizes she’s going to sell the land their two families have fought over for decades, Patrick might have to change his tune.

As he begins scheming to charm the woman the entire country wants to be or be with, she can’t deny the spark of chemistry between them still exists after all these years. The one that simmered in the shared woods behind their homes where no one else could see.

And when the danger that sent her fleeing as a teenager returns to seek revenge, she finds Patrick genuinely in her corner, despite his family’s objections. In the place she swore never to return, she might have just found the love and life she was searching for.

Except old wounds and unsettled scores might not let her keep it.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Well done, Carrie! Bittersweet is the start of a great new series by Carrie Aarons. It’s a small-town, enemies-to-lovers, hate-to-love, celebrity, hometown hero, neighbor romance with a dash of suspense thrown into the mix for good measure.

Cassandra is a famous actress at a crossroads in her life when her estranged father passes away and she is left to settle his affairs in the small Pennsylvania town where everyone hated him and, by proxy, hates her. Falling for her neighbor Patrick, Hope Crest royalty, was not part of the plan. They get off on the wrong foot, but it’s not long before they fall into a friendship of sorts. They each had a secret crush on the other when they were teenagers, so it was a sweet payoff when they finally get together.

Of course, there are bumps in the road — his dad wants her family’s land, danger from Cassandra’s past reappears in the present — but Cassandra and Patrick fight it together in this swoony, sexy and sweet small-town romance!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Between Never and Forever by Brit Benson

 Release Date: June 23

She was the first rule I ever broke.
She’ll be the last.

In the beginning, there was Savannah Shaw.

Teasing me with a mischievous, merciless grin by day.

Crawling through my window with tear-stained cheeks by night.

I was ordered to avoid her.

Lectured on her misdeeds.

Forbidden from seeing her.

But my need to protect her was innate, so natural I never
questioned it.

So visceral I couldn’t fight it.
She was the first rule I ever broke, and it’s why I lost her the
first time.

Now, out of nowhere, there is Sav Loveless.

World famous front woman for The Hometown Heartless, Hollywood’s newest up-and-coming film star, and my daughter’s idol.
Her reputation for trouble precedes her, but the celebrity who sets foot in my small town is no longer a girl in need of protection.
She’s a woman who has saved herself, and this time, it’s my life that’s falling apart.

Maintaining the distance between us is imperative, but everything about her pulls at every part of me.

My need to touch her clouds my logic.

My need to have her, to own her, to love her.

She’ll be the last rule I ever break,

but this time, it will be to keep her.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars
Between Never and Forever is full of angsty goodness! Savannah and Levi’s story is full of heartache and heartbreak. It was a rollercoaster of emotions and missed opportunities and I loved every minute of it!

Savannah and Levi were childhood best friends; the girl from the wrong side of the tracks and the preacher’s kid. Her home life was awful and everyone around town knew it. But Levi’s life wasn’t much better behind closed doors. They found comfort and support in one another, and Levi did all he could to protect Sav when they were teens.

There’s a time jump after Sav runs away when they reconnect three years later, and it seems like it is finally their time to be together. But she is on the precipice of making it big with her band, and a major life twist is about to change everything for Levi. The bulk of the story picks up when there’s another time jump and Sav arrives in the small coastal town where Levi lives to film a movie. Once they get past their hurt feelings about the events of the past, will it finally be time for Sav and Levi to be together?

This story was amazing. Levi and Savannah were rich, rounded characters with a deep history. How they get to their HEA is not an easy journey, but I so enjoyed going along for the ride with them! Levi’s daughter, Brynn, was a hoot, and I loved how Ms. Sharon stepped in to fill a void for Levi that he was missing in his own family. Between Never and Forever is a wonderful story of missed connections, second chances, redemption, and found family.

I hope that this is the start of a series because I really liked Sav’s bandmates, and would love to see more of them!

Brit Benson writes real, relatable romance novels that depict epic love. She likes outspoken, independent heroines, dirty-talking, love-struck heroes, and plots that tug on every emotion.

Brit would almost always rather be reading or writing. When she’s not dreaming up her next swoony book boyfriend and fierce book bestie, she’s getting lost in someone else’s fictional world.
