Sunny Shelly’s Review: An Endless Memory by Marie Johnston

AN ENDLESS MEMORY by Marie Johnston

Release Date: August 15

Blurb:

Get married or move out. Those are my options, thanks to the trust my grandma left and my aunt is determined to enforce.

From Marie Johnston comes a single-mom, marriage-of-convenience romance.

If I don’t get married, I’ll have to find somewhere to live that I can afford with two kids and a lot of debt—and do it without losing my brand-new job. When my aunt confronts me on the move-out deadline, I try to buy time. I blurt out a name. I tell her I’m engaged to Eliot Knight.

Eliot’s my boss’s brother and he’s been around the vet clinic where I work. He’s hot. He’s charming. He’s who I’d pick if I had to marry someone at a moment’s notice. But he wasn’t supposed to hear me. He wasn’t supposed to get dragged into my mess. And he wasn’t supposed to agree to help me. Now, we’re Mr. and Mrs. Knight.

We only need to be married for a year, and he runs his family’s ranch in another town. Three hours away. Yet circumstances keep throwing us together, and I get a lot of time with my new husband. I fall hard the first time I hear him say, “My wife.”

But our lives are still separate. At the end of the year, I’m afraid I’ll get to keep my house, but I’ll lose my heart and be left with nothing but endless memories.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I’ve been on a marriage-of-convenience kick lately, so An Endless Memory was right up my current trope alley!

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know this family, and I thought that Lily and her adorable kids are a great addition to the Knights. I loved how Elliot clicked with Cali right away, and seemed to be a baby whisperer with little Kellan.

Much of Lily and Elliot’s relationship is long-distance, and I really would have liked to have seen them together more. The times that they are together are great, and it feeds into the slow burn of this relationship. After all that Lily went through with her jerk of an ex, she deserved someone to treat her like a queen. And once Elliott got out of his own way, they got the HEA that they both deserved.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Hire a Cuddler by Hope Ford

Hire A Cuddler by Hope Ford is NOW LIVE

King is a determined billionaire… posing as a professional cuddler to get close to me.

He’s the type of man who always gets what he wants, and right now, he wants me—the socially awkward, plus-size model with intimacy issues.

I’ve never had anyone hold me, hug me – or even love me –  and my therapist thinks a professional cuddler will help break down the walls I’ve built to protect my heart.

I’m skeptical at best…

But King is so good at holding me together that the line between professional and personal quickly blurs, igniting a passion I’m not prepared for

King and I might be fifteen years apart, but our connection is undeniable.

When his true identity is revealed, I feel betrayed.

Until he proposes an irresistible deal: a fake marriage. He gets what he desires, and I get what I need.

I reluctantly agree… with boundaries of course.

Now, I just have to keep reminding myself that this isn’t real.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

I was intrigued by the blurb for Hire a Cuddler, and found the concept of hiring a professional cuddler fascinating. Is that a real thing?

As it turns out, Haven has intimacy issues, so she seeks out professional help from a “cuddler” as some last-resort therapy. While she’s meeting with the guy at a hotel office space, handsome older billionaire Ridge/King sees her and becomes… well, obsessed. As billionaires obsessed with pretty ladies are wont to do, he throws some money around and pretty much hijacks Haven as a client.

Although Haven is crushed when she learns that King was hiding his true identity from her, she agrees to continue seeing him… and even agrees to a fake marriage. But then more things happen, and…. I was already having issues with these characters before this point. I felt Haven could have stood up for herself more, and while Ridge was supposed to be a suave, older man, he came off as a spoiled overgrown frat boy. He knew she had intimacy issues, and thought that lying to her about who he really was as a means of getting closer to her would make her fall for him? And then he said some pretty mean things to her during their fight without even giving her a chance to explain or speak her say, So by the time I got to the miscommunication/breakup, I was underwhelmed by the lack of groveling from Ridge/King. I wanted more groveling from him, and I didn’t want her to take him back so easily! He owed her more than what he gave her.

Hire A Cuddler had some really cute moments. It’s a quick read, but… overall, it wasn’t my favorite.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Little Things by Jessica Prince

🐴 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 by Jessica Prince 𝐢𝐬 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄!! 🐴

*********************

I’ll admit, I made more than my fair share of stupid decisions, but all it took was an accidental felony and a teensy kitchen fire to turn my life upside down.

When my parents cut me off, selling my swanky Los Angeles apartment and shipping me off to some ranch in the middle of nowhere to teach me a lesson, I thought it was the worst thing that could happen to me.

Then I got to Safe Haven Ranch and met my new boss.

Zach Paulson is an older, grumpy cowboy who thinks I’m nothing more than a spoiled princess and doesn’t want me on his turf. He also happens to be drop-dead gorgeous, and can wear a faded pair of Wranglers better than any other man alive.

The dumbest thing I can do is fall into lust with the temperamental rancher. Unfortunately, I’m not exactly known for making good choices.

But I’m determined to do better this time. I want to prove to myself and everyone else that I’m more than the shallow, self-absorbed socialite I’ve been playing at for years. I have a plan. Keep my head down, do my work, and don’t make any mistakes.

The problem is, I’m not the only one with a crush, and all my defenses are useless against a man like Zach when he puts his mind to getting what he wants.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Ah, I loved this book!! The Little Things is the first story in Jessica Prince’s next-generation Hope Valley series. We have Zach — the orphan that Rory and Cord adopted in Stay With Me, now all grown up and a sexy cowboy — and Rae, the spoiled socialite daughter of Alma and Roan from Vamp.

After making a string of really stupid mistakes, Rae’s mom and dad ship her off to Hope Valley where she has to work on Rory’s son’s farm. Needless to say, Zach is none too happy to have Hollywood forced on him. He goes out of his way to make things hard for her, but Rae is a spitfire and she doesn’t give up very easily. Somewhere along the way, that disdain turns to lust and then to something more between these two. And the little things about the other that once annoyed them to no end aren’t so annoying anymore…

I really enjoyed the journey that Zach and Rae went on. I thought their connection was well written. There was sizzling chemistry from the start, and this book checked off all the boxes for an enemies-to-lovers story.

I am really looking forward to more in the Second Hope series! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Where There’s a Will by Ember Hughes

Where There’s a Will by Ember Hughes is NOW LIVE

Blurb:

Where There’s A Will is book one in the Trail of Tears duet, the debut novel of Ember Hughes.

Kinleigh
Colton rescued me when we were young.
He breathed life into me during our years together…
Before I was forced to sever ties.
No matter how much it hurt, no matter how much I hated it–
I had no choice. Because my father, Forrest Conway, gets what he wants. At all costs.
When Colton turns up ten years later… in my father’s cellar, as a captive, he doesn’t just want to be set free, but he wants to rescue me, too.
Again.
The thing is, I’m not the only one who needs rescuing.
And I’d give my life to save theirs.
Will he let me?

Colton
I’ve lived the last ten years believing I’m a bad brother and a no-good boyfriend. Not good enough to keep, at least.
My father’s passing brings me back home to Buffalo Trails, to the graveyard of my lost love.
What I learn while I’m “home” is terrifying.
And that’s before I’m taken captive.
Things only get worse from there.
Until I see her.
Kinleigh Conway. My heart and soul.
Thin. Bruised. Not speaking.
I know no matter how bad I have it, I’ll fight until the end to save her.
It’s the only choice.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Where There’s A Will is the first book written by author Daisy Jane under the pen name Ember Hughes. Having never read anything by Daisy Jane before, I wasn’t sure what to expect… Wow, this story blew me away!

Colton and Kinleigh’s story is dark — be sure to check out the list of trigger warnings because it is lengthy and this book deals with some really difficult topics. Parts of it were very difficult to read because of the content involved, but I am glad I pushed through. It’s raw and emotional. Even though Kinleigh is mute, and she can’t verbally communicate with Colton, the connection between them is still so incredibly strong even 10 years after they broke up.

When Colton realized what Kinleigh had been going through at the hands of her father… Oh, my heart! My heart broke for these two over and over again. Despite everything Kinleigh had been through, she showed such strength and grace and resiliency. I was in awe of her dedication to Colton and setting him free.

The book ended with several questions lingering, mainly about Kinleigh’s father. I hope they are answered in the next book. I’m really looking forward to getting to know Carsyn better!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Fumbled Arrangement by S. Jones

Blurb:

What started out as a night of fun at a Vegas hotspot somehow turned into saying “I Do” by an Elvis impersonator.

If you think that’s bad, it gets worse. My new husband lied to me and told me he ran a not-for-profit. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Imagine my surprise when I realized I married one of the best tight ends in the league.

Did I mention my uncle owns the team?

If you think things couldn’t get any more complicated, our plans to get an annulment are unexpectedly put on hold. So, now I’m trapped in this unforeseen marriage until we can find a way out. He assured me not to worry, proposing a temporary solution—move in with him and keep our relationship a secret.

Except, the more I get to know my husband, the more I want to stay married, especially when he calls me—”his wife”.

But life doesn’t always go as planned, especially when my uncle intercepts our news before we have a chance to tell him.

Now his spot on the team is at risk, my heart is on the line, and the fallout could cost us everything.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Fumbled Arrangement is the first book I’ve read by S. Jones, and I really enjoyed reading Rhett and Natalie’s story! I thought the title of this book was perfectly fitting for this couple, who got married while drunk in Vegas, develop real feelings for each other, and then it all gets botched up.

What I really liked about Natalie and Rhett is their insecurities; I thought that made them both very relatable characters. She has baggage from her previous relationship: her ex, a pro hockey player, cheated on her, leading her to feel like she won’t be enough to hold Rhett’s interest long-term. Rhett has always been a playboy and never wanted to settle down until he met Natalie. His worries about not being good enough for her are compounded by his family dynamics. He’s always been the black sheep and feels that his parents don’t approve of his career choice in playing professional football.

Despite their drunk wedding night, Rhett and Natalie decide to see if there is anything real between them. Over the next few weeks, they really get to know one another. There was an intense attraction between them from the get-go, and I really loved how these two characters built on that. Despite having never been in a committed relationship before, Rhett was all in when it came to being with Natalie. It took her longer to catch up, and I loved how dedicated he was to proving to her that he was in it for the long haul.

There’s a forbidden aspect to this story as well, since Natalie’s uncle owns Rhett’s team and made it clear that his players were off-limits to her. When that particular drama hits the fan, it leads to a third-act breakup. But there is some good groveling that comes afterward!

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I want to go back and read the rest of the Atlanta Arrows series!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Salty Pickle by JJ Knight

Salty Pickle by JJ Knight is NOW LIVE!

I’m headed to New York to confront the man I met on New Year’s Eve eight months ago.

I had to bring my goat.

And…I’m eight months pregnant.

The man I’m meeting in his fancy New York office is the saltiest hunk of male beauty you never want to cross. He wouldn’t know a smile if you drew one on his face.

I slept with him on a dare. Yes, we used protection.

Faulty protection, apparently.

I was going to raise the baby in my Colorado yurt with my pet goat Matilda. My two best girlfriends were going to be the other moms, but their lives moved on.

I’m a yoga teacher with forty dollars to my name. I had to hitchhike to get here.

I didn’t have a goat-sitter, so I’m loading Matilda onto the subway and headed to Wall Street.

It’s time to confront a salty baby daddy in a place called Pickle Media.

.

Salty Pickle is a salty-sunshine story between a city boy and a country girl who are thrown together with a newborn, a goat, and a goat baby, and more poop cleanup than should ever grace the pages of a romance novel, but here we are. It’s part of the Top 100 Pickleverse of rom coms, but you do not need to read any of the other books before this one. You can start your wild adventure with the Pickle family right here.

🐐 Get it on Amazon/Kindle unlimited: https://amzn.to/4eObJfB

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Salty Pickle is a hilarious standalone romcom set in JJ Knight’s Pickleverse. Court Armstrong is a cousin of the OG Pickle brothers, and the boss at Uncle Sherman’s media outpost, Pickle Media. Eight months ago, on New Years Eve, Court spent a rather entertaining 90 minutes with Lucy Brown — and now, with $40 to her name and out of options, she has come to New York City to track down her babydaddy. With her goat Matilda in tow.

These two characters are as different as can be, but they work so well together. Their first meeting is hysterical. Court is completely blindsided by the arrival of Lucy and Matilda, and isn’t sure that he is actually her baby’s father. Still, Court agrees to find Lucy a place to stay until she has the baby and they can do a paternity test. As the two (well, three!) of them spend time together during the last few weeks of Lucy’s pregnancy, Court and Lucy really get to know each other. I really enjoyed the progression of their friendship-turned-romance. But just when everything seems to be on the right track, Court and Lucy have a bl0w-out fight. Will they be able to patch it up before it’s too late?

Like the rest of the books in the Pickleverse, this book is so fun. JJ Knight delivers another hysterical story.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

P Rayne’s gothic series, Midnight Manor, concludes with Obsidian and Ariana’s story in Twisted Truths. This series of reimagined fairy tales was so fun to read. I loved each and every one of the Voss brothers, and how Piper & Rayne took nuggets of those beloved tales and spun them into these sweeping, dark, and broody romances all centered around four brothers, each equally tortured in his own way.

Closing out the series, Twisted Truths is a retelling of The Little Mermaid. I loved broody Sid and his struggles. He didn’t think he was good enough for Ariana and believed that he wasn’t worthy of having love in his life because his monster of a father had labeled him a monster as well. Even though Ariana was hiding a big part of herself from Obsidian (including why she was working for him), she was all in with their relationship… Well, as much as she could be.

This romance was a delicious slow burn. There was so much angst between these two, and their sizzling chemistry was off the chart. As with the rest of the books, the spice level is pretty high (especially given that the Voss brothers run a secret $ex club). I thought that the build-up to Ari’s initiation into the club was well-paced, and I was invested in the couple by the time they got there. And once who Ari really is and what she was doing comes to light, Obsidian has a decision to make. Will he recognize that her deception was done out of her love for her own family, or cast her aside?

Narrators Sebastian York and Kit Swann knocked it out of the park. I went back and forth between the ARC and ALC on this one, and even listened to some scenes while I read just so I could hear SebYo lend his sexy velvet voice to Obsidian while I was reading the written words.

All four books in the Midnight Manor series can be read as standalone stories, but I recommend reading them in order to get the full effect.

AH. MAY. ZING. Poppy and Laird’s story has earned itself a place on my re-read list.

Two years ago, Poppy and Laird spent an amazing night together. Total instalove. But then, she was in a horrible accident the next day and had zero recollection of the weekend they spent together. So when destiny brings them back together — she’s hired as a private chef to cook for a rockstar in the middle of a personal crisis — she has zero idea who her grumpy, angry, new boss is.

Oh, but Laird sure does remember! Dude has been hung up on Poppy ever since she ghosted him. So when she’s suddenly back in his life, he doesn’t really handle it all too well. He’s hurt, heartbroken, and angry….

But these two are soulmates. It takes a while to get there, but Laird and Poppy get to their HEA!

Poppy is a side character from the Westcott series (which I loved!), and Laird was in SL Scott’s Crow Brother series (which I never read). Their chemistry is off the charts, and I loved the circumstances of when they met two years ago and where life has taken them since then.

Everett and Raine’s story is a rollercoaster of emotion! Everett and Raine begin fake dating to help her escape her abusive ex, who happens to be his rival. There is so much emotion in this story. Everett goes full-on protector and was so patient as Raine worked through everything she’d been dealing with.

I somehow missed a book in this series, and I wish I hadn’t because I bet it would have contributed even more to how much I loved grumpy Everett as a book boyfriend. Longtime readers of Kelsie Rae’s will appreciate all of the Easter Eggs in this next-generation story (Don’t Let Me series)!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I loved, loved, loved Chad and Faith’s story so much! It was full of heart and lots of emotions, and beautifully captured the loneliness from the perspective of both characters during Chad’s deployment.

Faith’s twin brother, Ford, is Chad’s best friend, and they first met when the guys were on leave. But because Chad was reenlisting, he didn’t want to pursue anything with Faith. About a year later, Faith is looking for a job as a teacher and takes Chad up on his invitation to go hang out with him in California. While she’s there, Faith gets an unexpected job offer, and Chad suggests she marry him so she can stay in on-base housing in Cali and accept the job.

Even though they are just friends at that point, Chad went above and beyond to create the picture-perfect wedding for Faith. The romance between these two characters really grows during Chad’s deployment, as they write letters to each other, opening their hearts, sharing their secrets, and falling in love.

Beneath The Desert Sun was such a *real* story. It gave me all the feels, and I thought it was so well-written by co-authors Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black. Now, I need to go back and read the first book in this series!
