As soon as I read the blurb for I Do(n’t), I was sucked in. I love the brother’s best friend trope, and this cover is amazeballs. The two other Leddy Harper books I read — Silenced and Dane — took me on major rollercoaster rides, and I couldn’t wait to see what was in store with I Do(n’t).

I feel like I was reading something by a different author. And I mean that with the highest of compliments. The Leddy Harper I know of writes gut-wrenching, emotional stories full of angst. While I Do(n’t) definitely had some angst, it takes a much lighter tone than the previous books of hers that I’m familiar with. And I think that is a major testament to Leddy’s creative writing skills.

At first, I thought Holden’s excuses as to why he neglected to tell Janelle that they had gotten married were BS. But knowing that they would play a part in the bigger picture of this couple’s love affair, you have to suspend belief and just go with it. I so wanted this couple to get their crap together and get on the same page!

My one complaint is that when Janelle finally goes to Holden and they move away from being just roommates and more towards rekindling whatever it was between then all those years ago, he didn’t question her reasons why. I mean, at all. Never asked what changed her mind, etc. And after all of their discussions about the night that she couldn’t remember, and everything else under the sun, I was surprised that he was just all, “okay, then! Come on into my bed!” without any sort of discussion after the fact.

I loved Holden’s “oh crap” moment when he finally realized how their entire relationship must have looked through Janelle’s eyes. He really needed to grovel to win her back, and when he finally confessed everything to her, it left me with a tear in my eye.

This story hooked me from the get-go. The characters are engaging, their history ran deep, and the drama surrounding her family — and how Holden had been there when she was not — cemented it all together for me. I Do(n’t) was a fantastic read! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

This Is Why has absolutely everything I want to read in a second-chance romance. An amazing connection between the couple, a misunderstanding that kept them apart, and hard work at putting their relationship together, rather than an instant “everything is hunky-dory” relationship.

Seven years after Lexi and Ty spend one day and night together in Key West, they meet again at Bailey’s wedding reception. Lexi knew they were from the same town, but didn’t try *that* hard to track down the Marine after he ditched her in the middle of the night and she found herself pregnant. She never found the note he left her that he’d been called to duty immediately. But because this couple is absolutely meant to be together, fate has given them another push — but Lexi is at first too stubborn to accept it.

Little by little, Lexi lets Ty in, knowing that he deserves to get to know their son, Gabe. Ty’s never stopped thinking about Lexi and the connection he felt with her all those years ago, and he’s determined to prove to her that he can be a man she and her son can depend on. Because this is a military romance of sorts, Ty’s job as a Marine captain causes some drama and heartache for both of them.

What I loved about This Is Why is how relatable both characters are. Abby Brooks does a FANTASTIC job of taking the reader on their journey as they determine where they fit in one another’s lives, how to share the truth with Gabe, and the agony that they all go through before finding their HEA as a family.

I have loved every book in the Brookside series, and I will definitely keep This Is Why on my re-read list. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
