Claire Kingsley has done it again! I couldn’t wait to read this book cover to cover, but at the same time I didn’t want it to end because I have loved spending time with the Lawson family!
We first met Caleb in Book Boyfriend and Cocky Roommate — the hot, widowed surgeon struggling to raise his young daughter, Charlotte, with the demands of being an ER doctor. I often wondered, what was Caleb’s life like? Was he still hung up on his late wife? Did he not date because of his young daughter? Kingsley answers all of those questions in the very best way in Hot Single Dad as she tells the story of Caleb and his new nanny Linnea — who just so happens to be the younger sister of his late wife! Yes! Forbidden romance on top of the nanny/single dad trope!
Kingsley has Caleb and Linnea walk the perfect line between feeling sparks and not acting on them, so that the reader gets so invested in the characters that the build-up to their eventual first kiss was so worth the wait. Like with the rest of Kingsley’s characters (not just in this series, but in all of her books), Caleb and Linnea are real, relatable, likable and the struggles in their lives are commonplace to most ordinary folks. Then there’s the supporting players. The big old group of Lawsons. Can they adopt me?
The tight-knit Lawson bunch are such a big part of each other’s lives, as anyone who has read BB and CR know. So when they all gang up on poor Caleb in Chapter 7 — oh my goodness! Those were some of the funniest things I’ve ever read!! And I really liked how Weston — sweet, asshole Weston — was the one who ultimately convinced Caleb to get over his damn self and make a move before it’s too late.
Because Kingsley always knocks it out of the park with her epilogues, it’s no surprise that Caleb and Linnea get a HEA. But I absolutely adored the two-fer in her HEA. I read it with a tear in my eye. Amazing, Claire. Amazing. I wish there were more Lawson siblings because I didn’t want this series to end.
