Sunny Shelly’s Review: Love Reimagined, by Delancey Stewart

Title: Love Reimagined

Series: Kings Grove #2

Author: Delancey Stewart
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Romantic Comedy
Release Date: March 7, 2018
Blurb
Sometimes finding
the future you want means embracing the past…
Sam and Chance Palmer are both tall and dark, and look pretty damned good with
a hammer hanging their tool belt as they run their construction business in the
small mountain town of Kings Grove. But when it comes to the hottest eligible
bachelors in town, Miranda George only has eyes for one of them. Chance—the one
who won’t even look her way unless it’s because she’s just spilled something on
him or tripped directly into his path.

And while Miranda George has always had the hots for Chance Palmer, Sam has
spent years trying to ignore his feelings for her. The problem is that they’ve
known each other much too long, and Sam can’t seem to repress his A-hole gene
when she’s around. He’s given Miranda every reason to hate him, so why would he
ever hope she might love him instead?

When a backcountry wildfire threatens everything and everyone they both love,
will Miranda and Sam be able to look beyond their complicated past and see a
future that might bring them together?

This smart, funny small-town romance is the second book in Delancey Stewart’s
Kings Grove Series.

 Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

An absolutely sweet, charming romance! Delancey Stewart is a new-to-me author, and I absolutely adored this tale of unrequited love!

For most of her life, Miranda has been in love with Chance Palmer. He’s tall, dark and handsome, and absolutely charming. His younger brother, Sam, is just as tall, dark and handsome, but everything about him irritates Miranda. Every. Thing.

As it turns out, the reason why Sam acts like such a jerk around Miranda is because he’s been hopelessly in love with her for as long as he can remember and his brain just turns to absolute mush when he’s in her presence. But when wildfires put the residents of Kings Grove in danger, Miranda begins to see Sam in a whole new light.

These characters were so rich and developed. I felt all of Sam’s pain and heartache as the love of his life swooned over his brother. And I completely understood why Miranda felt that Sam was indirectly responsible for the most humiliating moments of her life. So when these two finally, finally got on the same page and got together, I had already been rooting for them for more than half of the book.

Love Reimagined is a slow burn, and a relatively clean romance; the couple only shares a few kisses, which was a nice change from the erotic romances saturating the market today. Overall, this is a charming story that is worth a read! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Contemporary Romance
Stand Alone

Blurb:

They say it happens when you least expect it.

It did for me.

It started the moment I saw the simple message pop up on my computer screen:

Cameron’s Mac: Hi.

And when I met the eyes of the gorgeous man messaging me from across the coffee shop, I never thought my reply would lead to the most intense, sexual, and passionate relationship of my life.

We both agreed to check our bags at the door and put our future hopes and aspirations on the table.

It worked.

I fell in love with his no holds barred attitude, sexy smirk, and undeniably good heart . . . and for a while we forgot about our baggage. We happily tripped over it to get to the other, neither of us willing to show the contents of our pasts in the off chance it could ruin us.

We built our love on a foundation of gray.

It was life in black and white that threatened to tear us apart.

Now Live: Marriage Of Inconvenience, by Penny Reid

SB_BANNER.jpg

Marriage of Inconvenience, an all new romantic comedy standalone in the USA Today bestselling, Knitting in the City Series by Penny Reid, is LIVE!

MOI copy.jpg

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Where We Began, by Nora Flite

Title: Where We Began
Series: Where We Began Duet #1

Author: Nora Flite

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: March 6, 2018

Blurb

My life was full of my sister’s laughter and miles of green trees.

Then the black car came.

Strangers in sharp suits dragged my father back to a past he kept hidden.
Worse, they made him choose one of us—his own children—to go and live with his
enemies. It’s a way to keep him working for them… and from running again.

I’m a hostage.

The food is fancy, the carpets are lush, but this bed isn’t mine. I don’t
belong here and my head and heart know it. I’m painfully alone.

And then I’m not.

The first time I meet Dominic Bradley, he saves me from a maid with a pair of
scissors. This sweet boy is nothing like the rest of his family. He becomes the
only sunlight in these smothering halls. The one person holding me together.

When he leaves for six years, it shreds my soul.

It’s nothing compared to when he comes back.

Gone is my sweet boy. In his place is a hardened soldier ready to obey his
father. He’s gained new demons; and I’ve lost my only friend. Dominic acts like
he’s forgotten our past. But I can’t. It’s impossible to forget the moment I
fell in love.

I know where we began.

I’m not sure where we’ll end.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

The first in a duet, Where We Began isn’t your conventional love story. Its definitely a darker romance than Flite’s other books, as Laiken is pretty much being held captive by Dominic’s family. They first meet as 12 year olds when she is taken from her parents to live with his, but a month later, he is shipped off to military school and they don’t see each other again for 6 years. And by then, lots of hints have changed in both of their lives.

The storytelling is solid, but I just couldn’t get behind the premise of this book. I had a hard time enjoying it just for the fact that Laiken was taken by her parents because of a wrong her father made against Dominic’s dad.

The forbidden aspect of their romance was intriguing, and I liked Dominic as a hero. Heck, I even liked Laiken. I just didn’t love the circumstances surrounding them. Still, I’m interested enough to see where the second half, Where We Ended, takes this couple.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Hard Crush, by Mira Lyn Kelly

Title: Hard Crush
Author: Mira Lyn Kelly
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 6, 2018

Blurb
HARD CRUSH is a sizzling standalone romance from
USA TODAY Bestselling author Mira Lyn Kelly.
A jaded billionaire.
The girl who got away.
A second chance has never been so sexy.
ABBY
Technology has it out for me. And I’m not
talking about my ever-ailing phone or the temperamental Smart Board in my
classroom. I’m talking about the internationally hailed “Tech Genius” formerly
known as the boy I used to love.
It was bad enough seeing that cocky smile
staring back at me from my newsfeeds, the gossip sites, and—fine—the
scorchingly hot men’s fitness magazine I bought in a moment of weakness. But
now he’s back home, teasing me with the memories I’ve tried to leave behind,
crowding into my space and taunting me with the kiss I can’t resist. I know
it’s only a matter of time before I lose him again. He’s already told me he
isn’t staying, warned me he’s changed. I know better than to let him get too
close, so why can’t I push him away?
HANK
They call me a visionary. An innovator. Hell,
last week a headline touted me as the billion-dollar geek keeping Silicon
Valley’s panties wet. Try living that down. Strip away the media BS, and I’m
just a tech-minded guy with my eyes on the future and no time for a past I
can’t change. So what am I doing following the sweet sound of its laugh back to
the woman who passed on our chance at forever?
I tell myself all I want is to say hello. To
see her smile. Just a few minutes to pretend we’re still the “us” I thought
would never end. But once I’ve had a taste of the too tempting woman she’s
become, a few minutes isn’t enough.
The man I am today is used to getting what he
wants, and I want her.
The problem? She wants the guy I used to be.
Ten years later, all that’s changed is… everything.

 Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

How far would you go to win back the one who got away? How much would you give up, sacrifice?

Hard Crush started off a little slow, but as the story went on, so grew my desire to see Hank and Abby get it together for good. Ten years after Abby broke things off, Hank is back for their high school reunion. Abby is teaching at their old school, the same one where they’d planned that he would teach, too. But instead, his life path led him to being one of the most successful tech entrepreneurs in the world. But the minute he sees Abby again, that closed-off part of him reignites and he’s determined to win her back.

Except that Abby wants one of it. Aside from a rekindled friendship and one hot night of sex, Abby won’t let her heart open back up to Hank. Because she knows that, like 10 years ago, he is meant for bigger things and won’t be the one to hold him back… or be left behind.

It took a while before I really *got* Abby’s hang-up about being left behind. And when that happened, the story clicked for me. How far Hank was willing to go to make her dreams come true was true storybook-romance.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt

I take her
hand and remember the thousands of times I’ve done it before. “I’m glad we got
to talk. It’s been too long.”
A few
strands of her hair catch in the breeze and I tuck them behind her ear. Only
just like with hearing my name and holding her hand, the tactile sensation from
the soft strands between my fingers stirs up memories I thought safely put to
bed. It gives me ideas I shouldn’t be considering.
“Hank?”
Abby whispers, quiet and confused. “What are you doing?”
Losing my
mind. “Giving us a better goodbye.”
My fingers
curl in so the backs of my knuckles stroke her soft cheek. This is so messed
up. I know what I’m doing is wrong, but she’s looking up into my eyes.
I kiss her.
By adult
standards, it isn’t much of a kiss. A single brush of my mouth against hers and
a lingering contact I’m not quite ready to give up. And yet that barely-there
kiss has my heart slamming against my ribs and fire racing through my veins.
It’s like
I’m fifteen again. Except instead of this being my first kiss with Abby, it’s
our last, and I don’t want it to end.
I’m not
talking about not wanting it to end like I didn’t want all the other Abby stuff
to end before.
No, this is
different.
I. Don’t.
Want. This. To. End.
But too
soon, that soft clinging contact is gone, leaving only the warmth of her breath
against my lips.
One breath.
Two.
Three.
I open my
eyes, realizing I’m not the only one still holding on. Abby’s free hand, the
one that isn’t still trapped in mine, is wrapped around my tie.
She hasn’t
let go.
A shadow
passes over her eyes. “You’re not in Chicago for good.”
She isn’t
really asking, but she wants to hear me say it anyway. She wants to remind us
both that fundamentally nothing has changed. That we need to stop this before
it goes too far, and hell, I know
she’s right.
“I’m not.
Tomorrow’s just a business trip, but all indications are I’ll be out of Chicago
in a few months if this deal goes through.” And even if it doesn’t, there will
be something else. There’s always something else.
It’s the
deal breaker that lost me this woman ten years ago. After the way Abby grew up,
she couldn’t watch me leave and she wouldn’t wait for me to come back. I didn’t
understand until it was too late the first time around, but now I do.
And with
her in my arms, it’s good that neither of us loses sight of the fact that this
fundamental difference between us hasn’t changed.
She nods
her understanding, and I wait for her to take a step back, for the shake of her
head and quiet laugh. Only it doesn’t come. Instead, her eyes drop back to my
mouth and the world around us starts to slow. Because I know that look. I fucking love that look.
But this
has to be a mistake. We aren’t teenagers. We aren’t starting something new.
So what am
I doing, uncurling my fist to sift my fingers into the dark silk behind her
ear? Using that hold to tip her head back? Waiting until her heavy-lidded stare
finds mine again?
What am I doing?
Only it
doesn’t matter what I’m doing,
because then Abby is the one tugging at my tie to bring me closer. She’s the
one murmuring her agreement that this is a much better goodbye a scant inch
from my mouth.
She’s the
one short-circuiting my brain, and now the only thing I’m thinking is that I
can do much, much better.
This time
when my lips meet hers, there’s nothing barely-there about it. I kiss her hard,
gathering her close, then closer still as she opens beneath me with a
shuddering gasp I feel all the way through me.
Her fingers
knot in my hair, then race over my shoulders and neck. Christ, her touch is
electric, building the charge in my chest by the second.
We’re
breathless and frantic. Devouring each other with a hot need that edges the
line of control.
Just
another minute and we’ll stop.
Just
another taste.
My hand
wraps in her hair and she moans around the thrust of my tongue.
Yes.
The part of
my brain that’s still functioning is rolling through the data…
We’re in a
parking lot.
The press
is camped out on the other side of the school.
I don’t do
serious, and this is the girl I learned how to love with.
We should
stop. No maybe about it.
But Abby’s
breasts are pressing into my chest as she wraps her arms around my neck, and
now there’s another part of my brain speaking up… and this is the part I know
better than to listen to. It’s the part that dirty-talked me into climbing up
the old oak outside Abby’s bedroom window… when her parents were home. It’s the
part that swore up and down security wouldn’t notice if I let myself back into
the lab at MIT after hours just to finish my experiment. And right now, it’s
casually noting the parking lot is empty.
It’s asking
me why, if the press knew we were back here, they aren’t calling my name to
score a frontal face shot.
“Hank,” she
gasps, and there’s no more mental chatter. I press her against the car, pinning
her with the weight of my body.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Tap That, by Jennifer Blackwood & RC Boldt

Title: Tap That
Authors: Jennifer Blackwood & RC Boldt

Genre: Romantic Comedy

 Release Date: March 6, 2018

Blurb

The beer’s not the only thing getting tapped.

CALLIE

I have a secret. It’ll get me fired if my boss ever finds out…which shouldn’t be a problem except for one thing: my coworker, Reid Morgan.

He’s cocky, aggravating, and that hot-as-sin mouth simultaneously makes me want to slap him and melt into the mattress.

Now that he’s discovered my secret, he’s doing everything in his power to take my job.

REID

I have a problem: my pint-size spitfire of a coworker who’s primed to take my promotion.

She’s infuriating, sexy as hell, and I just can’t seem to keep my hands off her.

Now we’re both vying for the same position…and only one of us can come out on top.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Tap That is a funny, quirky, fun enemies-to-lovers romance that has the right amount of hate, the right amount of swoon and the right amount of lust. Reid and Callie immediately get off on the wrong foot — he’s the sexy bartender hoping to be promoted to On Tap’s manager, while she knows zero about beer and gets the position on a probationary period. Reid is a big, arrogant jerk to Callie (and at times, his behavior is really uncalled for), but she sucks it up because she’s determined not to fail, otherwise she’ll be forced to go to work for her parents.

The sexual chemistry between these two is off-the-charts — as are their zingers and hate-fueled lust. But despite their hatred toward one another, Callie and Reid are drawn together like magnets. Aside from the fact that Callie is on track to take the position that Reid wanted himself, the bar has a non-fraternization policy, so once they do give in to their lust for one another, there are a lot of stolen romantic moments before the whole thing blows up in their faces.

Like with any other romance, there is a Conflict, which leads to The Breakup, then the eventual Reunion. (That whole butterscotch cookies exchange? Brilliant.) While all of that is rather predictable, I feel a little bit in love with Reid when he groveled for forgiveness.

Overall, Tap That is an enjoyable enemies-to-lovers romance with little angst, fun, quirky characters and a HEA that left me smiling. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Exclusive Excerpt:

The bell over the door rang as someone opened it. I placed a wide smile on my face, only to freeze when my wet dream walked into the store.

Oh, God. He was… stunningly hot.

I was going to choke and burn.

He glanced over his shoulder and smiled when a woman entered just after him. I let out a whoosh of air that had caught in my lungs. When I knew the hot guy, like Clint, for instance, was taken, I was totally fine around them.

Although, I couldn’t help but feel the sad dip in my belly knowing the man candy in front of me was taken. Then again, he was totally out of my league. At least he was entertainment for a few moments in the boring night.

“Hi,” I chirped, and waved when they both looked my way.

Wow, his lady friend was also stunning. A little on the larger size like myself, and gorgeous, and seeing them together made me like the man even more because he went for a bigger-sized woman.

“Hey, hi, um, just looking,” she spat, and then giggled nervously.

Aw, she was shy. I wanted to take her in my arms and hug her, tell her there was nothing wrong with being in an adult store.

However, I didn’t. Instead, with my eyes holding hers, I said, “Let me know if you need any help. The other day our delivery came in with a shock therapy simulation kit for the nipples, clit and pussy mound. I’ve heard they do wonders to get you aroused.” The woman blanched. But when the man beside her choked out a laugh, I turned to find him looking at me. I quickly averted my gaze back to the woman. Yes, I was okay with good-looking men once I knew they were taken, but his eyes, his warm, dark, luscious eyes wanted to hold me captive until I shouted my deepest darkest secrets, and I didn’t think it would go down well when his girlfriend was standing right next to him.

“Um, thank you. I think. But really we’re just looking. Filling in some time.” She thumbed to the man next to her. “He dared me to come in while we waited—”

“What are these?” the man asked suddenly.

Dang it, I didn’t want to look at him. My face was already starting to feel hot. I shouldn’t have had that reaction since it was obvious he was taken, yet I was still acting like an idiot around him. Quickly, I flicked my gaze to see what he held. My eyes widened a fraction. Did he even read the packet? It was really self-explanatory.

Or maybe he couldn’t read or he needed glasses to read.

Sucking in a breath, I called forth my sales persona and pasted on a smile. Talking to him didn’t actually mean I had to look at him. I could fake it.

God, I hoped I could.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

-A reclusive rock star going through the motions-

Jake McKallister might have been a rock star, but he was no ordinary one. Surviving an unspeakable crime as a young teen had shaped him into a guarded workaholic, and he now lived his life trying to forget. If it hadn’t been for music and the redemption he found through it, he might not have survived. Career success came easily for him. Personal connections did not.

-A vivacious college student embracing life-

When outspoken and fun-loving Casey Caldwell was paired with the famously reserved musician for a friend’s wedding, she was prepared for the worst. What could they possibly have in common? She was a bubbly talker; he was a media-shy loner. His life was filled with music; she couldn’t carry a tune. She’d enjoyed a happy childhood; his was a well-publicized nightmare.

-Their worlds are about to collide-

Despite their obvious differences, Jake and Casey found each other, and her light balanced out his darkness. Would their love be strong enough to survive the weight of his tragic past?
