Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

A great start to a new series by Lila Monroe, an author I know I will always get a great read from!

Fashion stylist Gemma is up for a promotion at work and must show off a complete transformation, personal and home, on a new male client. To up the ante, she and her rival pick each other’s subjects, and a chance encounter at her office now has Gemma needing to give a makeover to her surly, hairy, grouchy neighbor Zach, aka Bigfoot.

But Zach is so much more than the schlubby slacker he comes off as. Hiding underneath that Grizzly Adams beard is a GQ tech genius, an unassuming billionaire. He’s hiding a broken heart underneath all of that hair, a guy whose ex never made him feel like he was good enough. And as Gemma gets to know him, of course she starts to fall for him! As they embark on a romance, enter Gemma’s guilt over the bet.

When Zach learns the truth, will all bets be off?

This book had a lot of funny moments — the hike in the mud! — and super sweet and romantic moments. Zach really is a romantic underneath that lumberjack outer appearance! I enjoyed this so much, and can’t wait to see what happens with Gemma’s friends in the rest of this series!

Release Blitz: Dating The Enemy, by Nicole Williams

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Ms. Romance, Hannah Arden, writes one of the top read relationship advice columns in the nation. Mr. Reality, Brooks North, writes the top read relationship advice column.

Ms. Romance believes in true love and soul mates. Mr. Reality believes love is a term humanity has assigned to the primal instinct to procreate. She believes in fate—he in chance. She knows there’s one right person for everyone—he knows there are multiple ones. The two writers couldn’t be more polarized on relationships. They’re professional rivals, and philosophical antagonists.

For eight years, their battles have been fought with words and ink. That changes when they apply for the same position at the World Times and find themselves face-to-face for the first time. Brooks isn’t the sour-faced, antiquity of a man Hannah pictured. And Hannah isn’t exactly the middle-aged shrew with cat hair on her housedress that Brooks imagined either.

In lieu of competing for the promotion traditional ways, the two writers are presented with playing the leading roles in a social experiment unlike any before. Can a person be tricked into falling in love? Can a relationship be crafted under the right string of circumstances? Hannah knows the answer. So does Brooks.

Agreeing to the terms, the two set out on a three-month dating experiment, live-streamed for the world to watch. All Hannah has to do to win is not fall in love with the narcissistic brute. All Brooks has to do is get the starry-eyed dreamer to fall in love with him. Both are so confident in their philosophies, they expect the challenge to be easy.

With the world watching, Brooks and Hannah will be forced to confront their beliefs and conclude, once and for all, who’s right. The answer is one neither of them saw coming.

“So?” His head lowered toward mine. “Have you fallen in love with me yet?”
A single-noted laugh escaped from me. “No. Sorry to burst your bubble.”
“You know it’s only a matter of time.”
“Before our three months are up and, lo and behold, I haven’t fallen madly in love with you?” I said. “Yeah, I know that.”
He held out my glass of cider, scooting closer. “Am I really that offensive?”
“Taken as a whole, no, you’re not. But taking this whole set-up into account, along with your beliefs that love is for weak-minded ninnies, then yes. You really are so offensive.”
A half smile emerged. “What do your readers think about this whole thing?”
“My readers definitely don’t want me falling for you,” I answered.
“But your readers love romance, and some handsome, roguish fellow taking your hand in a park while you’re dressed in a white dress is the definition of romance.” Right then, Brooks’s hand covered mine where it was resting on the blanket.
Instead of stiffening or whipping away, I found myself relaxing under his touch. The camera’s presence screamed at me from the corner of my eye.
“My readers believe in finding the one.” My hand slipped from beneath his. “Not the one who takes your hand and pretends to like you so he gets the promotion.”
“Who says I couldn’t be your one?”
I laughed. “Even I don’t need to run the numbers to know that has about a one-in-an-impossible chance of happening.”
Brooks slid his glasses onto his head, his eyes unapologetic in their stare. “You and me? You couldn’t see it?”
“Not even a little.” I had to look away. “When it’s right, you know it. You feel it.”
Brooks’s head shook before he took a drink of his cider. “I admit, it’s a nice idea. But don’t you feel it inside? The realization that it’s just not true?” He stared out at the park and the people in it.
I gazed with him, trying to ignore that pit opening up in my stomach. “I’d rather spend my life chasing a dream than swallowing a cruel reality.”
“You’d rather spend your life lying to yourself than being honest?” Brooks asked.
“I don’t think any of what I believe is a lie. Soul mates, unconditional love, happy endings—it’s all real.”
“Fairy tales,” he muttered under his breath. “So explain why a marriage dissolves after twenty years because of fifteen minutes of indiscretion.”
Reaching for my glass, I answered, “It wouldn’t have if he kept it in his pants.”
He blew out a sharp breath. “No, that’s like saying twenty years, our kids, our house, our finances, everything is worth less than that fifteen minutes of fucking.” His arms threw out, his tone rather impassioned. “That’s not unconditional love. That’s the very conditional kind.”
“You’re right. It is the conditional kind. On the part of the one who engaged in the fifteen minutes of extra marital . . .” I just caught the cameraman’s hands flailing before I said, “Screwing. That was one-sided unconditional love, and that never works in a relationship.”
One of his brows rose. “That’s a convenient explanation. But I’ll stick to my beliefs that all of that unconditional love junk is worth its weight in bullshit.”
I shot the cameraman an apologetic look—so much for keeping this date in the PG realm. “Then how do you explain the couples it has worked for? The ones who live a long, happy, committed relationship together.”
“I call it a case of two determined people willing to overlook each other’s weaknesses and not be hell-bent on changing or fixing the other, who’ve figured out a way to laugh at themselves, forgive easily—not to mention often—perfect the fine balance of selflessness and selfish, and on top of that, won the relationship lottery.” Brooks clinked his glass against mine before finishing what was left of his cider. “That’s how I explain that.”
I blinked at him. “Wow. Don’t hold back or anything.”
“That’s just half of it.”

Breck

My name is Brecklyn Brannon, and I’m not who I claim to be.

A year ago, I packed up my promising life in the city for a man I saw only once.

Accepting a temporary job with Cade and four blazing hot veterans should have been my way in.

Except, Cade acts like he would rather be tortured than speak to me.

He can resist all he wants, but I made a promise that I intend to keep.

Even if it costs me everything.

Cade

I’ve watched her for over a year.

There’s something about her that seems familiar… but now that she’s living here for two weeks, I could care less what it is.

I just want her gone.

Breck is temptation personified, and some lines can’t be crossed.

I’m Major Cade Jameson, and I made a promise, too.

One that I can’t break.

No matter how hard it gets.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Gorgeous was rather intense, but so worth the read! And the meaning behind the title is not at all what I thought it would be. This story is a standalone, but as Cade is first introduced in Commander In Briefs, I need to go read that now and learn more about this intriguing man!

A war vet suffering from PTSD, Cade is so damaged and a tortured soul. The anguish he feels over being attracted to Breck but feeling unworthy and deserving of being with her is heartbreaking. And even though Breck isn’t forthcoming about why she’s there, the truth about who she is is what ultimately pushes him to break through that last wall and accept himself and forgive himself.

Gorgeous was an amazing, emotional rollercoaster of emotions and I couldn’t put it down. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About the Author:

A self-proclaimed reader enthusiast, Kristy started her writing journey back in 2009, reading and writing when her daughter was napping. Establishing her place in Corporate America (because something had to pay the bills), writing became her dirty, late-night secret.

After eight long years, she released her debut novel, Commander in Briefs. It was a long road, but she can honestly say, the road less traveled had the most beautiful sights.

The only thing Kristy Marie loves as much as reading and writing is sports! Especially those that require muscles and a nice ass. Her favorite is, and always will be, baseball. She’s such a fan, that she even married her small town’s high school’s centerfielder where they still live with their three badass kids.

Commander in Briefs is her first series but definitely not her last.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Reckless Miles, by Claire Kingsley

reckless miles cover.jpg

Reckless Miles by Claire Kingsley

Amazon: www.books2read.com/recklessmiles

Goodreads Link: http://bit.ly/2wIEfez

Synopsis:

I love being naked. Naked is awesome.” ~Cooper Miles

Life used to be an endless party. I worked hard and played harder (as often as possible). But things change—people change—and lately the party life isn’t doing it for me.

Enter Amelia. It isn’t every day that you meet a girl in a wedding dress in a bar. A girl whose life just took a sharp left turn she wasn’t expecting.

Kissing her? It’s no big deal—totally just for fun. She’s had one hell of a day, and a little kissing lesson by Cooper is bound to make her feel better. Getting in a little dig at the dumbass who left her at the altar is a bonus.

The invitation back to her hotel? That, I wasn’t expecting.

Saying yes to her is reckless. Not because I’m a stranger to a one-night-stand. And not because she’s in a wedding dress, and the words this is my first time cross her lips.

Saying yes to Amelia is reckless because she’s making me feel things I’ve never felt before—big things. Nothing scares me. But this girl? She might be magic, and I have no idea what to do with that.

reckless miles1.png

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I loved Cooper and his Cookie! Claire Kingsley lands another winner with Reckless Miles! Cooper is such a crazy, chaotic character, I couldn’t wait to see the woman who reined him in. And what I loved about Amelia is that she not only “spoke Cooper” but her brain operated on the same super-fast speed as his. She was his equal in so many ways!

We all know that Cooper is a manwhore. So of course Amelia is a virgin bride the night that they have a one-night stand! That fling turns into a whole “Cooper-moon” and before they realize what is happening, Cooper and Cookie are absolutely smitten with one another.

Aside from the adorable romance between Cooper and Amelia, the storyline continues with the Miles family patriarch. And there are some nice twists and turns in this book on that side! I adore this family, not only their romances but their bonds with one another. And there is a super-sweet scene with Cooper and their little half-brother!

Overall, I couldn’t have asked for anything more when it comes to Cooper finding the love of his life. It is magic! Is it time for Leo’s book yet, Claire?? I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Austin is a great start to what I hope is a new series from Lauren Runow and Jeannie Colette! Austin is set in the world of illegal street racing, but this book goes deep. Austin comes off as cocky and arrogant, but Jalynn is a sassy spitfire who quickly puts him in his place! I love a tortured hero, and Austin is definitely one! But is the secret of Austin’s past too much? Will it prevent him from having a future with Jalynn?

I loved the characters, I loved the story and I loved the set-up for the next book! Fantastic, all around! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

BLURB

He was the hot popular guy. I was the nerdy girl with a fantasy crush.

All of my childhood, I was invisible to Adam Carlisle. That was fine, because I was too shy, and too smart, to think I had a chance with the most popular guy in school.

Until someone crowned him prom king…

And me queen.

But it was only a cruel joke that ruined my self-esteem and broke my heart.

Ten years later and my friend begs me to attend our school reunion with her. I’m older, wiser, but still a nerd. This event is setting off my anxiety.

I want it to be over.

Then… I see him.

My prom king.

Adam is hotter than ever. But what really gets my attention?

He’s staring right at me.

I’m not invisible anymore.

What happens when my fantasy crush becomes reality?

EXCERPT

There’s a commotion by the door and I look over and my whole body goes cold, then hot. Olivia Mitchell is standing in the doorway.

I didn’t think I’d ever see her again. Nobody thought we’d ever see her again. But there she is, alive and… beautiful.

And then she looks right at me. It feels like my heart stops. This song, looking at each other. It feels all too familiar, and I don’t think that I can keep still.

I glance over at Trent.

“Excuse me.”

He follows my gaze and smiles.

“It’s about time, man. Go.”

I leave my whiskey at the table, and I head straight for her. It’s like I’m being pulled, and she’s looking at me like I’m the last person she expected to see. I hope that I’m not the last person that she wanted to see. Olivia. Ollie. It’s been a long time, and there are emotions welling up inside my chest that I haven’t examined in a long time.

The first step is to say hello, Adam.

Don’t get ahead of yourself.

It’s shallow, but I’m stunned by how gorgeous she looks. Ollie was always beautiful in a quiet way, but it’s not quiet tonight. I try to pull my eyes away from the blue dress hugging her amazing body or else my dick is going to be as hard as granite. But holy fuck do I want to look and never stop looking.

She looks away from me and suddenly I can breathe again.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

A delightful binge read! Ten years after a horrible experience at her senior prom, Olivia gets a second chance with her teenage crush, Adam, at their school reunion. But Mean Girl Sasha is still just as petty a decade later, and is still plotting to keep them apart.

There were some plot points that I felt were rushed, or not quite realistic, and the I wish that there was some getting-to-know-you between Olly and Adam before the instalove. But this was overall a sweet story of the geek who lands the popular jock… and really proves that you can’t believe everything you hear in a high school hallway!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

the situation is total fantasy material?
Mila is in Paris seeking inspiration for her first solo art exhibition.
James’s unexpected arrival adds another dimension to her stay, especially since
her teenage fantasy is still larger than life and slipping between the sheets
with her.
One night of fooling around opens a Pandora’s box which Mila wants to pry
open wider, whereas James wants to keep the lid on—Mila is a sweet innocent and
no way is he going to expose her to anything, especially not to the real James
Sinclair.
As he free-falls into complication territory, James struggles to keep
control over his past and his heart. When his ex-girlfriend arrives out of the
blue, hell might just be a place where he’d rather be.

James
appeared in the entrance hall and Mila’s heart skipped a beat at seeing him. He
looked ruffled, his tie loose around his neck and his hair disheveled as if
he’d dragged his fingers through it too many times.
She sat
straighter, brushing the tendrils of hair from her face. “Hi.”
He dropped
his laptop bag at the entrance and tossed his keys into the bowl on the table.
“Hi.” He closed in on her, and with each step he took, her heartbeat edged up a
notch. By the time he stood at her feet and she had to lean back to see his
face, her pulse was racing.
“Rough day
at the office?” she breathed, their earlier sexting running on repeat in her
mind.
“You could
say that.”
She looked
down so that he couldn’t see her grin, but her eyes came level with a budding bulge
in his trousers and she had to look even lower. There was a rustle of fabric
and with a sigh, he dropped his jacket to the floor. She looked up to see him
tugging at his tie. He unknotted it slowly, intentionally, and her stomach did
a slow warm-up at seeing his fingers, the memory of him licking her juices off
them earlier as vivid as if he’d done so a second ago. The tie landed on top of
his jacket.
“We have
unfinished business.” He stared down at her as he started to roll up his
sleeves.
She shifted
in the chair, sudden heat crashing through her at the look in his eyes. Yes, we do.
“Your
business dinner?” she whispered. She was in it deep this time.
He took his
time to finish rolling up his sleeves. Every cell in her beat in a frantic
tick-tock. She had no idea what he was getting up to, but within her, there was
an unruly reawakening of this morning’s unfulfilled desire.
“Cancelled.”
He placed his hands on the armrests and bent over her. She wanted to lean back,
to get away from his gaze that didn’t break with hers, but she was trapped. His
lips were inches from hers, and hers felt dry in anticipation that he might
kiss her.
She ran her
tongue across her lips, her breathing stalling as he bent over to run his lips
across her temple. At any moment he could slip lower, to her lips.
But instead
of searching for her mouth, he grazed her ear. “But that’s a good thing because
now I can take care of other… issues.”
She closed
her eyes as a heated wetness gushed between her legs. “What issues?”
“Someone
called me a pussy tease.” He nibbled her earlobe and she dropped her head to
the side to give him access to her neck. “What does that even mean, Mila?”
Author Bio
I’ve always been drawn to the magical escape of books and
the journeys they take us on without leaving the comfort of home. I’ve been
fortunate to have traveled to France, and this book was inspired by a visit to
Paris some years ago. We were walking in some narrow alley in the 1st arrondissement
of Paris, when I noticed a door with a single plaque with Club Privé written on
it. My imagination got going, and at some point, things got pretty wild. I’ve
wanted to write for a long time, but life had plans of its own. I’m grateful to
finally have time to write, and love writing contemporary and erotic romance in
far-flung settings. Taking readers on a journey of their own with my books is
part of the plot. Bon voyage!
