One Night To Fall was an a quick, easy read. It’s a solid second chance romance about a couple who grew up as neighbors and best friends before becoming each other’s first everything. But as many young couples do, Patrick and Kinsey split up — her decision — but by the time she realized what a huge mistake she’d made, Patrick’s actions had prevented them from being together again.

The prologue begins ten years later when Patrick and Kinsey are reunited under difficult circumstances. But Patrick refuses to let the one who got away escape from him again, and spends the next two years asking Kinsey out. Every single day. Because he just wants one night to convince her that they still belong together.

The sweet story goes back and forth between Patrick and Kinsey in the present, and memories of their youth, weaving a wonderful story of forgiveness, soulmates and everlasting love.

When I was a wee lassie, I was told by my preschool teachers that I was a natural at storytelling. When I was just a little older than that, an old friend’s mother said to me, “Kelsey, one day your books are going to be on the shelves at the library.”

Well, Diane, I don’t know if my books are ever going to be on the shelves of libraries, but I’m sure as hell going to try.

When I’m not writing stories destined to be bestsellers, I enjoy devouring TV shows, listening to every type of music there is and going to concerts, reading pretty much anything (with a soft spot for romance and certain books located in 18th century Scotland), obsessing over makeup, and pretending to workout.

I also have a fondness for cats, my family, tattoos, and a really good French fry.

Lips Close To Mine had a little bit of everything: Levi and Harper have known each other since they were in diapers, there was an insane attraction between them, friends with benefits, a girl who experienced so much heartbreak she doesn’t want to open herself up again, witty dialog and funny banter between the main characters, enjoyable secondary characters… and a bet gone wrong.

No matter how badly Harper wanted to hate Levi, she just couldn’t. He kept showing her over and over again just how great of a guy he was — living up to his “Pants Charming” nickname and more. Both Levi and Harper have some major relationship baggage, but he seems to be more willing to move on with “Ham” than she is with him. I love how determined he is, how Levi just ignores all the pushing away she does. Although, at times, I kinda wanted to throttle her for not seeing what a great guy she had right in front of her!

Lips Close To Mine is a standalone second book in a series about a group of friends; I have not yet read Talk British To Me (Mateo and Teague’s story), but I didn’t feel like I was missing out either, even though Levi and Harper’s connection began in that previous book.

Overall, a solid, romcom. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this group of friends. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:

      “What do you say we open that champagne then skinny-dip in the fountain?” I ask, releasing my seat belt. That I’m dying to Harper her naked again might have something to do with my suggestion, too.

        She searches my eyes for clues I’m serious. I help her out. “Unless you’re chicken.”

        With a straight face, she unclicks her seat belt, picks up the bottle of champagne and proceeds to pop the cork like a champ. She takes a swig, her full lips wrapped around the bottle, her eyes never leaving mine. My dick twitches as I imagine her gorgeous mouth sucking me deep. Full disclosure: I’ve been picturing this every damn night for the past two months.

        “Your turn.” She hands me the bottle as her tongue licks across her full bottom lip. If she’s trying to torture me, it’s working.

        Our fingers brush when I accept the Dom Perignon, and once again, the small, effortless touch isn’t enough. I take a small gulp of the sparkling drink, mindful I’m driving. When finished, I pass it back. “So, your cousin said something interesting to me tonight.”

        “Shit.”

        I laugh. The harder Harper tries to keep me at arm’s length, the more her family tries to draw me in. “Since you’re sitting at the head table during the wedding reception, she wanted me to know I’ll be sitting with your brothers.”

        She chokes on the champagne. “What the hell? I never RSVP’d you were my plus-one.”

        “Your mom did.”

        Harper’s head falls back against the seat, chin up, eyes closed. “That woman is impossible. I’ll tell them you’re not coming to the wedding.”

        “I don’t mind.”

        “I do.”

        “All right. Whatever you want.”

        “That’s it? Just like that, you’re not coming now?” She shifts positions, drawing her legs up so she’s sitting on them and facing me. I hadn’t noticed that she’d slipped off her shoes.

        “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable around your family.”

        “You don’t do that.”

        “You sure? I think I do.”

        “No. You don’t. Not even a little. But…”

        “But what?”

        “I did tell my mom I had a date so she wouldn’t bug me about it. I was planning to find a random guy to go with me, so I guess since she thinks it’s you…” She takes a drink, extends me the bottle.

        I put my palm over my heart. “How magnanimous of you.”

        “I know,” she teases. “Don’t you forget it.”

        “So I am going to the wedding?”

        “Yes.”
