Now Live: Best Served Cold, by Emma Hart

BESTSERVEDCOLD-banner1live.jpg

Revenge is a dish best served cold. Which is a real problem when the attraction runs red-hot.

Best Served Cold, an all-new standalone romantic comedy from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Emma Hart is LIVE!

BESTSERVEDCOLD-cover4.jpg

Trust me. I know. The only reason I decided to renovate my family’s ice-cream store was to serve up a sundae full of revenge for my a-hole ex who opened an ice-cream store right next to mine.

It was supposed to be simple.

Renovate. Reopen. Put his peachy butt out of business.

Until he decided to get under my skin—and broke my toe.

Now, I’m stuck with Chase in my store every day, helping me renovate. But he’s also in my head, and I’m spending a little too much time up against his abs.

Not that it’s the worst place to be.

But it doesn’t change anything. I still hate him, and I’m still going to get my revenge.

Right?

Abby

I jump down and grab my knife, but as but as I pull back in what should be the segue into my quick getaway run—dramatic, smooth, commanding, just like in the movies—I’m jerked back.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

The knife is stuck.

“Abby, let’s go!” Beth snaps at me. She’s crouched behind the truck where they can’t see her. “I cannot believe that I trusted that you were going to break up with him like a normal person. Let’s go.”

“I’m trying,” I shush back, jerking again on the damn knife.

“Just leave it.”

“It has my initials on it.”

A gift from my mom for my eighteenth birthday. She knows me so well. Not.

“What the … seriously?” Beth moves around to the tire and pushes me out of the way. I duck when Jace’s ball cap comes into view over the back of the truck. Then, Beth and I yank on the knife together.

Nothing happens.

“Let me drive!” Tyler shouts.

“Dude, what the fuck is your deal? It’s my truck. I’ll drive.”

“But I’m thinking of getting one just like it, and I need to test drive something.” Tyler’s response is quick.

“Dude, whatever,” Jace replies as I see the keys flying through the air, right before Tyler comes into view.

“What the fuck are you doing, Abby?” he says through the side of his lips. I barely see his mouth move.

“Trying to leave. What does it look like?” I whisper frantically.

“Whoops!” Tyler drops the keys. He kneels in front of the tire and jerks the knife out in one swift move.

Damn.

His white T-shirt hugs his bicep, and, oh boy, he looks good tonight. I mean, he’s always had the whole Liam Hemsworth thing going on, but tonight he looks even hotter than a movie star. His hair is the perfect dirty blonde and his eyes are brightest green I’ve ever seen. Don’t even get me started on his smile. Shoot, any girl would agree to whatever he wanted just to see it one more time. I would know. I’ve been that girl.

Tyler gives the knife to me and mouths “run.” We don’t hesitate in the slightest.

I tuck the knife into my back pocket as I duck to run. The tire is successfully slashed, and I’m not leaving any evidence of my crime at the scene.

Hunching behind her car, Beth shoots daggers from her eyes as she stares at me. The look is so intense, I need something else to focus on.

Yes, this crack on the sidewalk is a nice distraction.

“I can’t believe you,” she seethes.

“It’s fine. No one saw us but Tyler,” I say just as Jace begins shouting a string of curses.

Jackass.

“I should have known you were going to do something crazy tonight. You made breaking up sound so simple,” Beth adds.

I shrug and then we both hunker down tighter when the lights of Tyler’s truck flash our way. I crawl around the front of the car and watch them turn the corner.

Then, I start to laugh.

Beth is still glaring at me. Only now she’s standing with her hands on her hips and looking at me like my mom would when I’d come home past curfew, before she decided she didn’t want anything to do with me.

The whole picture makes me laugh even harder. Slowly, Beth’s lips begin to tug into a smile.

“You are out of control,” she says and unlocks her car.

“There is nothing wrong with that,” I tell her.

EXCERPT

~Ally~

Miller holds open the hobby shop door for me. “After you, my warrior princess. I believe we have a castle to create.”

“Chloe left me a list of items to pick up, since she’s seeing her therapist.”

“Never miss a shrink visit, I say.” Miller stops in front of a remote-controlled helicopter display. “How are they going for her, anyway?”

“Good. She’s almost done with the appointments. She’s doing so well now, but it took a while,” I say, smiling as we go inside, proud of my girl.

“I’m glad she’s doing better. It’s all because of you.”

I wave off the compliment as we head down the aisles. Pom-poms and fabrics abound, nestled alongside scrapbook boxes and glitter glue, which cuddles with glitter guns and ribbons. I stop at an aisle bursting with silver ribbons, polka-dot ribbons, and ribbons with tassels. I scratch my head. “I don’t understand why there are so many ribbons.”

Miller leans in close and whispers, “The better to tie you up with, my pretty.”

A tingle spreads over my shoulders, surprising me, even thought I’m not surprised by his words. He’s a natural-born flirt, and I’m used to his naughty banter. It’s never directed toward me, per se. He’s just having fun. It’s Miller being Miller, like when we play Bananagrams and he tries to make as many naughty-sounding words as possible, like caulk and diphthong. “In that case, let’s make it a polka-dot ribbon. I can wear it with my famous polo shirts and ponytails,” I say, referring to the super-sweet style I wore when I sang online with my brother.

“Ooh, that makes it even naughtier, and it proves my point.”

“What’s that?”

He holds up a finger. “I have a hunch craft stores are frequented by the Fifty Shades crowd.”

I laugh. “DIY BDSM-ers?”

He wiggles his eyebrows. “Ribbons are for typing pretty wrists.” He circles his hand around my wrist, sending another unexpected charge through me. I do my best to ignore the sensation. He lets go quickly and leads me to an aisle of wooden frames, birdhouses, and, oddly enough, paddles. “Those paddles are not for school projects, I tell you.”

“Whatever are they for?” I ask, feigning innocence.

Miller mimes spanking my butt. Next, he gestures to the candle-making section. “Exhibit B that hobby shops are fronts for kinky sex clubs—just imagine all this wax dripping on bellies and butts tonight.”

“How on earth am I supposed to work on a project with Chloe now that you’ve put these thoughts in my head?”

He runs a hand lightly over my hair and says in his raspy baritone, “I suspect those thoughts were already there.”

Were they? Are they? Images scroll through my mind, mostly involving ribbons.

Just when Alexa
Walker has given up on finding her happy-ever-after to focus on her career as
the Bad Girl of Sweets, in walks Dylan James, steaming cup of coffee in his

after finally burying the hatchet, Alex is ready to put her best sisterly foot
forward.
Upper crust, old
Boston money, and part of the infamous Boston Billionaires Club, Dylan doesn’t
have a lot of free time and he definitely doesn’t have time to hang around a
coffee shop that’s not even in his neighborhood, waiting for the Bad Girl of
Sweets to deliver her weekly confections. He doesn’t have time until he sees
her and knows he needs to make the time. She’s fiery and fierce, witty and
bright, and that was only their first introduction. Suddenly, chocolate croissants
aren’t all Dylan’s craving.
Dylan isn’t exactly
sure what he’s getting into with Lexi Walker, his Bad Girl of Sweets, but he
knows he’ll take her any way he can get her. Pregnant with someone else’s baby

Better get
this in while you can. In a few months, I
ll be like a keg with legs.
Lexi was
not a big woman to begin with. Not much more than five feet tall, he wasn
t sure how shed carry a baby without looking like
a keg with legs.
He liked
her enough that he wanted to be around to see it.
When it
comes time, I
ll just
roll you down the hall,
he
joked.
She nipped
his jaw, catching a bit of flesh, making him hiss.
Women dont like jokes about their weight.
You did.
Thats different.
Noted, he thought dryly.
My
apologies,
he offered.
But the fact remains.
I
ll take you any way I
can get you, Lex. Pregnant, not pregnant, doesn
t matter. I just want you.He settled her on the bed, laying
her down and working on the buckle of her heels.
“I’ll still want to slide these shoes off your
feet.
He dropped one
to the floor and then the other.
“I’ll still want to peel these pants, that do amazing things for your ass,
by the way, off to see what
s underneath.He
did just that, revealing her short, toned legs, and discarded them with her
shoes.
“I’ll still want
to take this off,
he
whispered, tugging her sweater until she let him pull it over her head,
and spread your hair out behind you
on the bed.
God, when
he looked down at her, all spread out like that, he knew he was a goner. She
was smiling up at him, her black hair spread out like an ink puddle underneath
her head. Even her bra and panties were black, the bra having no straps, just a
band across her chest.
The
underwear were no more than a scrap of fabric.
You just
going to stand there looking at me all night?
she asked, lifting her foot to run a toe across
his chest.
I could,
he admitted, his eyes glued to
her stomach. There was a deep, red mark across her middle, where her pants had
dug into her skin, too tight for the tiny, burgeoning baby bump she sported. It
nearly took his breath away, the significance of what her body was doing. He
spread his fingers across her belly, the little protrusion hard under his hand.
Dont wear those pants anymore,he said quietly. Theyre hurting you.
Fashion is
pain,
she joked.
“I’m
serious, Lex.
He
crawled over her, placing a kiss on the soft skin of her stomach. She even
smelled sweet there, like sugar and comfort.
No more of this.He ran his fingers along the indent and then
met her eyes.
No more.
She wrapped
a leg around him, the silky skin of her thigh against his side.
I cant go home without pants on, Dylan,
she reasoned. But yeah, I wont wear those ones anymore. Too fat
for that.
Not fat,
he argued, his hand splayed
across the bump. Too amazing, he thought.

“Can I ask
you something? It’s totally fine to say no.” She adds the last part quickly.
She smiles and looks at the spot over my shoulder, her fingers tapping a quick
beat on the table. She looks vulnerable, her eyes wide, allowing me to see how
nervous she is. I mean, how can I say no to her?
“Sure.” I
settle back on the seat and stretch my arms along the back of it.
“Can I . .
. can I kiss you?” Her eyes snap back to mine, and she hurriedly adds, “I know
you’re heading to Boston in a few weeks and—” She sucks in a deep breath. “I really want to kiss you. I promise I
won’t try to do anything else. Just kiss you.”
Holy. Shit.
I take a
deep breath, letting her words sink in, and realize I’m breathing faster than
normal. My gaze falls on her mouth, and I literally stop breathing because that
mouth, God help me. It’s like a
gateway to a whole new galaxy where secrets and wishes are waiting to be
unveiled.
I need to
kiss her. I want to discover the universe beyond those full lips. I’ve been
fighting the need to kiss her since I walked inside the diner and saw her
wiping down the counter. But my brain is telling me it’s a bad idea and kissing
her will irrevocably change me. Change my life. I know I won’t be able to come
back from that. But the other part of me, the part that has a hopeless,
desperate crush on this girl, just wants to drag her onto my lap and let her do
whatever she wants.
“It’s
getting late. We should probably lock up and leave,” she says in a small voice
when I take too long to reply. She pushes her hair back before standing up and
starting to stack our plates together. Her gaze meets mine briefly. “Look, I’m
sorry I made this awkward. It’s not fair to you—”
I reach
out, curling a finger through the belt loops on her jean shorts, and tug. But
she doesn’t move toward me. Instead, her grip around the plates grows tighter,
and she turns to leave.
“Gracie.” I
tighten my hold, forcing her to set everything back on the table and look at
me. “Come here.”
I pull her
close while placing my other hand on her hip. Then, I slide both hands in the
back pockets of her shorts, pulling her closer until all I can see is her face
and her lips—so close to mine.
Her chest
rises and falls quicker than before, and I realize mine’s doing the same. We
stare at each other. I wonder if she regrets asking to kiss me. That thought
makes my chest ache. Right now, in this moment, with my face inches away from
her boobs, I’d do anything for a chance to know what she tastes like. My
fingers skim along her arm and bury themselves in her hair. She trembles
against me, so I know she wants this as much as I do.
Earlier
today after leaving work, I drove home. My mind was preoccupied, and I was restless,
so after taking a shower, I got into my car. And somehow, I found myself
parking the truck outside the diner. Maybe this is why I came here; I don’t
know. But I really want to find out.
“Do it.” My
voice is a whisper. I’m almost breathless with want. I want to yank her down
and kiss her myself, but she looks like she’s about to flee. So I let her come
to me. “Kiss me.”
She sinks
her teeth in her bottom lip as she comes closer. I’m glad I’m sitting down
because my knees are shaking with anticipation. Then her lips touch mine, her
eyes on me the whole time. Need has my fingers tightening in her hair as she
presses her lips more firmly to mine. Her tongue peeks out, running along the
seam of my lips. I groan and shift on the seat to ease the discomfort in my
pants. My mouth opens, and the second her tongue touches mine, my body rattles
with a shiver. This moment feels sacred. Like a blessing. It feels blasphemous
and holy all at once. It scares me.
Tugging her
into my lap, I fist her hair in my hands as I incline her hear further, fusing
our lips together more firmly. But our noses are in the way, and we have to
find the right angle to stop bumping into each other. It’s frustrating at first
because I want her lips on mine and her breath mingling with my breath. Our
heads finally slant in the right positions, and our lips fit perfectly. We both
exhale in relief and groan at the contact.
Something
in me breaks loose. Suddenly I’m pulling at her hair frantically, and my kisses
become hungry and aggressive. I’m trembling and desperate and all I can think
is I’ve never felt anything like this before, and I don’t ever want to stop or
let her go. I don’t need to wonder if she’s enjoying this kiss too. Her hands
fisted in my hair, yanking me closer and closer are all the answers I need.
She’s pressing her chest into mine, and I swear I can feel her heart hammering.
Neither one of us wants it to end.
We break
apart and gulp for air, and my hands leave her hair, greedy to explore other
parts of her, but they end up on her hips, pulling her further into me.
“More,” I
beg, because right now, that’s all I can do.
Beg like my
life depends on it. At this point, I feel like I’m about to go up in flames.

But Zach is so much more than the schlubby slacker he comes off as. Hiding underneath that Grizzly Adams beard is a GQ tech genius, an unassuming billionaire. He’s hiding a broken heart underneath all of that hair, a guy whose ex never made him feel like he was good enough. And as Gemma gets to know him, of course she starts to fall for him! As they embark on a romance, enter Gemma’s guilt over the bet.

When Zach learns the truth, will all bets be off?

This book had a lot of funny moments — the hike in the mud! — and super sweet and romantic moments. Zach really is a romantic underneath that lumberjack outer appearance! I enjoyed this so much, and can’t wait to see what happens with Gemma’s friends in the rest of this series!

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Ms. Romance, Hannah Arden, writes one of the top read relationship advice columns in the nation. Mr. Reality, Brooks North, writes the top read relationship advice column.

Ms. Romance believes in true love and soul mates. Mr. Reality believes love is a term humanity has assigned to the primal instinct to procreate. She believes in fate—he in chance. She knows there’s one right person for everyone—he knows there are multiple ones. The two writers couldn’t be more polarized on relationships. They’re professional rivals, and philosophical antagonists.

For eight years, their battles have been fought with words and ink. That changes when they apply for the same position at the World Times and find themselves face-to-face for the first time. Brooks isn’t the sour-faced, antiquity of a man Hannah pictured. And Hannah isn’t exactly the middle-aged shrew with cat hair on her housedress that Brooks imagined either.

In lieu of competing for the promotion traditional ways, the two writers are presented with playing the leading roles in a social experiment unlike any before. Can a person be tricked into falling in love? Can a relationship be crafted under the right string of circumstances? Hannah knows the answer. So does Brooks.

Agreeing to the terms, the two set out on a three-month dating experiment, live-streamed for the world to watch. All Hannah has to do to win is not fall in love with the narcissistic brute. All Brooks has to do is get the starry-eyed dreamer to fall in love with him. Both are so confident in their philosophies, they expect the challenge to be easy.

With the world watching, Brooks and Hannah will be forced to confront their beliefs and conclude, once and for all, who’s right. The answer is one neither of them saw coming.

“So?” His head lowered toward mine. “Have you fallen in love with me yet?”
A single-noted laugh escaped from me. “No. Sorry to burst your bubble.”
“You know it’s only a matter of time.”
“Before our three months are up and, lo and behold, I haven’t fallen madly in love with you?” I said. “Yeah, I know that.”
He held out my glass of cider, scooting closer. “Am I really that offensive?”
“Taken as a whole, no, you’re not. But taking this whole set-up into account, along with your beliefs that love is for weak-minded ninnies, then yes. You really are so offensive.”
A half smile emerged. “What do your readers think about this whole thing?”
“My readers definitely don’t want me falling for you,” I answered.
“But your readers love romance, and some handsome, roguish fellow taking your hand in a park while you’re dressed in a white dress is the definition of romance.” Right then, Brooks’s hand covered mine where it was resting on the blanket.
Instead of stiffening or whipping away, I found myself relaxing under his touch. The camera’s presence screamed at me from the corner of my eye.
“My readers believe in finding the one.” My hand slipped from beneath his. “Not the one who takes your hand and pretends to like you so he gets the promotion.”
“Who says I couldn’t be your one?”
I laughed. “Even I don’t need to run the numbers to know that has about a one-in-an-impossible chance of happening.”
Brooks slid his glasses onto his head, his eyes unapologetic in their stare. “You and me? You couldn’t see it?”
“Not even a little.” I had to look away. “When it’s right, you know it. You feel it.”
Brooks’s head shook before he took a drink of his cider. “I admit, it’s a nice idea. But don’t you feel it inside? The realization that it’s just not true?” He stared out at the park and the people in it.
I gazed with him, trying to ignore that pit opening up in my stomach. “I’d rather spend my life chasing a dream than swallowing a cruel reality.”
“You’d rather spend your life lying to yourself than being honest?” Brooks asked.
“I don’t think any of what I believe is a lie. Soul mates, unconditional love, happy endings—it’s all real.”
“Fairy tales,” he muttered under his breath. “So explain why a marriage dissolves after twenty years because of fifteen minutes of indiscretion.”
Reaching for my glass, I answered, “It wouldn’t have if he kept it in his pants.”
He blew out a sharp breath. “No, that’s like saying twenty years, our kids, our house, our finances, everything is worth less than that fifteen minutes of fucking.” His arms threw out, his tone rather impassioned. “That’s not unconditional love. That’s the very conditional kind.”
“You’re right. It is the conditional kind. On the part of the one who engaged in the fifteen minutes of extra marital . . .” I just caught the cameraman’s hands flailing before I said, “Screwing. That was one-sided unconditional love, and that never works in a relationship.”
One of his brows rose. “That’s a convenient explanation. But I’ll stick to my beliefs that all of that unconditional love junk is worth its weight in bullshit.”
I shot the cameraman an apologetic look—so much for keeping this date in the PG realm. “Then how do you explain the couples it has worked for? The ones who live a long, happy, committed relationship together.”
“I call it a case of two determined people willing to overlook each other’s weaknesses and not be hell-bent on changing or fixing the other, who’ve figured out a way to laugh at themselves, forgive easily—not to mention often—perfect the fine balance of selflessness and selfish, and on top of that, won the relationship lottery.” Brooks clinked his glass against mine before finishing what was left of his cider. “That’s how I explain that.”
I blinked at him. “Wow. Don’t hold back or anything.”
“That’s just half of it.”

Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews Gorgeous, by Kristy Marie

Contemporary Romance

Stand Alone

Blurb:

Breck

My name is Brecklyn Brannon, and I’m not who I claim to be.

A year ago, I packed up my promising life in the city for a man I saw only once.

Accepting a temporary job with Cade and four blazing hot veterans should have been my way in.

Except, Cade acts like he would rather be tortured than speak to me.

He can resist all he wants, but I made a promise that I intend to keep.

Even if it costs me everything.

Cade

I’ve watched her for over a year.

There’s something about her that seems familiar… but now that she’s living here for two weeks, I could care less what it is.

I just want her gone.

Breck is temptation personified, and some lines can’t be crossed.

I’m Major Cade Jameson, and I made a promise, too.

One that I can’t break.

No matter how hard it gets.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Gorgeous was rather intense, but so worth the read! And the meaning behind the title is not at all what I thought it would be. This story is a standalone, but as Cade is first introduced in Commander In Briefs, I need to go read that now and learn more about this intriguing man!

A war vet suffering from PTSD, Cade is so damaged and a tortured soul. The anguish he feels over being attracted to Breck but feeling unworthy and deserving of being with her is heartbreaking. And even though Breck isn’t forthcoming about why she’s there, the truth about who she is is what ultimately pushes him to break through that last wall and accept himself and forgive himself.

Gorgeous was an amazing, emotional rollercoaster of emotions and I couldn’t put it down. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About the Author:

A self-proclaimed reader enthusiast, Kristy started her writing journey back in 2009, reading and writing when her daughter was napping. Establishing her place in Corporate America (because something had to pay the bills), writing became her dirty, late-night secret.

After eight long years, she released her debut novel, Commander in Briefs. It was a long road, but she can honestly say, the road less traveled had the most beautiful sights.

The only thing Kristy Marie loves as much as reading and writing is sports! Especially those that require muscles and a nice ass. Her favorite is, and always will be, baseball. She’s such a fan, that she even married her small town’s high school’s centerfielder where they still live with their three badass kids.

Commander in Briefs is her first series but definitely not her last.
