Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

What?!?! Love Lock took everything I thought about where Pippa and Drew’s story was going and threw it out the window!

It’s been 5 years since Drew broke Pippa’s heart (and his own) by breaking up with her. He’s never gotten over it, and it is his biggest regret. She, meanwhile, tries to move on and even gets married. But it is a horrible relationship, and she’s suffering.

When Drew tries to set things right, will he be able to win back his lost love? Or is it too late for him to play hero?

I thought this was a great ending to this duet. It’s heartfelt, heartbreaking, filled with drama and tender moments. And I really hated Pippa’s brother. So much of what happened to her could have been avoided if he wasn’t such a jerk about things! I guess he’s redeemed himself, but I really didn’t like him!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

EXCERPT

“What about you?”

He scratched his jaw with a thumb. “What about me?”

“After that interrogation, there’s no way you’re getting off easy.”

“Getting off.” He smirked.

“You’re a child.”

“I’m a man.”

I took one of the throw pillows from behind me and smacked him with it. Or tried to, but he fended it off. “Come on, what’s the story? You work in a cesspool of toned abs and pheromones. I know there’s a woman who loves to sweat and lift ungodly amounts of weight just as much as you do.”

He laughed. “You are something else.”

“So I’ve been told.”

“Anyway, that might be true, but I would say the essence is more body odor, less pheromone.” He shrugged. “I guess I haven’t had time to think about dating.”

“Are you kidding? You wouldn’t even have to leave work. You essentially have a conveyor belt of women, coming in and out of your gym for workouts. And afterward, you’re showing them how to cook. You’re telling me there’s been no heated glances? No meeting of eyes over the treadmills, no brushing of hands while you’re making boring grilled chicken, side by side?”

“Is that how you perceive my job?” Humor entered his gaze, twisted his mouth. “I’ll have you know, I’m very professional.”

I held up both palms. “Hey, I’m not making accusations. All I’m saying is, it could happen. I’m picturing all this in my head like a bad RomCom.”

“No chance. I wouldn’t even entertain the idea.”

“That’s it, who hurt you? Who made you this wary of heated glances and brushing body parts?”

The mirth eased from his eyes first, and then his mouth settled into a line. It wasn’t quite a frown; he wasn’t that transparent. But I could feel the gloom that’d slipped over him. Was it something I’d said?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Hitched, by Pippa Grant & Lili Valente

Title: Hitched
Authors: Pippa Grant & Lili Valente
Genre: Romantic Comedy

 Release Date: September 3, 2019

Blurb

She’s the last woman on earth I’d marry….again.

Yet here I am.

Saying my vows. Again.

To save an alpaca.

At least, that’s my story.

But the truth might be a little more complicated.

I didn’t want to let her go the first time. But now I have a second chance to
win over my wife.

We’re older. Wiser. And hornier.

This time, I won’t fail.Hitched is a red hot, enemies-to-lovers laugh-a-palooza featuring a girl in
need of a marriage of convenience and a man in need of a cold shower to keep
from falling for his fake wife. They say opposites attract, but with Blake and
Hope, they also combust…

ADD TO GOODREADS

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Hitched is another cute collab from Lili Valente and Pippa Grant, set in the quirky town of Happy Cat. This time around, O’Dell brother Blake finds himself hitched in a marriage of convenience to his ex-wife, Hope. All in the name of saving her beloved alpaca from becoming her greedy cousin’s property.

In the previous books, Hope and Blake hated each other. But you know how there’s a fine line between love and hate? As it turns out, they don’t hate each other much at all. The situation that leads to their marriage is far-fetched, but it lends to lots of funny moments. And there’s good chemistry between Blake and Hope. He never wanted to get divorced after their spontanous Vegas wedding, and he hasn’t gotten over Hope in the years that have passed. And as much as Hope doesn’t believe in true love or happy marriage, she’s never gotten over Blake, either. When push comes to shove and Hope needs to save her alpaca and her animal sanctuary, Blake stands up in every way that matters, proving to Hope that she can rely on someone other than herself.

The characters in this series are all up in each other’s business, and Hitched is no different. This book has all of the crazy antics of the other Happy Cat books, those glorious O’Dell brothers, and the ladies they love.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Last Post, by Renee Carlino

In this evocative and poignant novel from the USA TODAY bestselling author Renee Carlino of Blind Kiss and Wish You Were Here, a young widow in the midst of grieving her late husband through Facebook posts learns to heal and fall in love again.

“See you on the other side.”

Laya Marston’s husband, Cameron, a daredevil enthusiast, always said this before heading off on his next adventure. He was the complete opposite of her, ready and willing to dive off a cliff-face, or parachute across a canyon—and Laya loved him for it. But she was different: pragmatic, regimented, devoted to her career and to supporting Cameron from the sidelines of his death-defying feats.

Opposites attract, right?

But when Cameron dies suddenly and tragically, all the stages of grief go out the window. Laya becomes lost in denial, living in the delusion that Cameron will come back to her. She begins posting on his Facebook page, reminiscing about their life together, and imagining new adventures for the two of them.

Micah Evans, a young and handsome architect at Laya’s father’s firm, is also stuck––paralyzed by the banal details of his career, his friendships, and his love life. He doesn’t know what he’s looking for, only that there is someone out there who can bring energy and spirit to the humdrum of his life.

When Micah discovers Laya’s tragic and bizarre Facebook posts, he’s determined to show Laya her life is still worth living. Leaving her anonymous gifts and notes, trying to recreate the sense of adventure she once shared with her late husband, Micah finds a new passion watching Laya come out of the darkness. And Laya finds a new joy in the experiences Micah has created for her.

But for Laya, letting another man in still feels like a betrayal to her late husband. Even though Micah may be everything she could wish for, she wonders if she deserves to find happiness again.

Written with Renée Carlino’s signature “tender and satisfying” (Taylor Jenkins Reid, author of Maybe in Another Life) prose, this warm and compassionate novel shows us how powerful the courage to love and live again truly is.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 2 Stars

I really wanted to like this book. But I just could not connect with the characters, and the story dragged as a result.

Six months after her husband’s death, Laya is still communicating with him through his Facebook page. Micah, who works with Laya’s dad, feels a strong connection to her and begins to respond in person to the things that Laya’s writing about. Bringing her flowers, taking her to her favorite noodle place….

The whole time, I kept hearing the Police song “I’ll Be Watching You” in my mind and thought Micah was more stalker than romantic. And Laya attacking him for random sex in a bar bathroom five minutes after meeting? No thanks. I just could not get behind caring for them as a couple.

The only other R.C. book I’ve read is Blind Kiss, which I thought was phenomenal. And I have friends who devour every R.C. book they get their hands on. I’m hoping that this was just an off read for me. I received an advanced copy via NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily left a review.

Already Gone by Kristen Proby and K.L. Grayson

Release Date: August 27, 2019

ecover AG.jpg

Already Gone, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby and USA Today bestselling author K.L. Grayson

Falling in love is easy…

New Hope, South Carolina is my home. It’s where I grew up, got into trouble, and fell in love for the first time. Scarlett Kincaid was more than the girl next door, she was my best friend, until she decided that small town life wasn’t for her. One minute she was here, and the next she was gone.

The girl I used to fish with down at the creek is now the biggest name in country music. She headlines world tours, has won four Grammys, and I haven’t seen her since. Until today when she sped through town in her fancy car. One look at her big brown eyes was all it took to stir up a whole slew of emotions. Emotions I’d long ago buried and sure as hell don’t have time for.

It’s the aftermath that’s hard…

There are two things in my life that matter. My music, and my dad. Twelve years ago, I packed a bag and chased my dream. Leaving New Hope and escaping the gossip mill was the easiest decision I ever made. I never planned to return, but my father needs me, and he always comes first. So, I did what I had to do. I cut my tour short and came home, despite having a sister who hates me, and a community that doesn’t trust me.

And then there’s Tucker Andrews.

When he propped an arm on the roof of my car, pulled down his sunglasses and flashed his police badge, I nearly swallowed my tongue. Gone is the lanky boy who used to throw rocks at me and pull my pigtails. Tucker is now a six-foot package of brawny, sexy man wrapped in more muscle than I have hit singles. Did I mention he’s a cop and a single dad?

My goal was to help Dad, and get back to my life. But what am I supposed to do when the life that used to strangle me suddenly fits like a glove, and makes me dream of things I never thought I’d have? What happens when the boy I walked away from years ago becomes one of the most important people in my life? I don’t have room for a man much less love.

Right?

Because it’s impossible to hold onto someone who’s already gone.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I love best friends to lovers, and Already Gone has the bonus of being a small-town, single dad and the country superstar romance, too!

It’s been 12 years since Scarlett left New Hope, and she hasn’t looked back. She’s traveled the world, and has scores of adoring fans. But when she’s called back home to care for her dad after he has a stroke, Scarlett worries that her small hometown will suffocate her. She never imagined that she’d find love with her childhood best friend and fix the relationship with her estranged sister. But when her celebrity career and Tucker’s small-town life clash, will they be able to compromise or is Scarlett already gone?

I loved how Tucker and Scarlett dealt with the changing tone of their friendship and transitioned into such an easy romance. It’s like they were meant to be together all along. Tucker’s daughter, Chloe, was an interesting age at 11, because she was old enough to be a major character, and have her own relationship with Scarlett. So the impact of Scarlett’s work obligations affected her as well.

This book had all the feels. Right down to the in-the-future epilogue that had me in tears. Great chemistry, lots of use of the main characters’ history, and an entertaining cast of supporting players. This was a great collab between Grayson and Proby, and I hope they plan stories for Scooter and Dean!

Blog Tour Teaser .jpg
Excerpt:

New Hope, South Carolina.

Population 6,129.

I know every soul represented in that number. Not a single one of them drives the shiny red Mercedes that just went speeding by.

Seventy-five in a forty-five.

I flick on my lights and press on the gas, sending my cruiser flying past the city limit sign and the godawful billboard that sits directly behind it; the one declaring New Hope home to country music superstar, Scarlett Kincaid.

It wouldn’t be a big deal if this were actually her home. It’s not. Scarlett may have been born here, but her fancy boots haven’t landed on this soil in over a decade.

All it took was one call from a hotshot music executive to send her packing before the ink was dry on her high school diploma. Scarlett flew from this town fast enough to leave our heads spinning. Before any of us could process what had happened, little Scarlett Kincaid—the same girl who used to build forts with me in my living room while my mama made us mac ‘n’ cheese—had a hit single sitting at number one on the Billboard charts.

She went from homecoming queen and most likely to marry a rich spouse in our senior yearbook, to the queen of country music.

The country loves her. Hell, the whole world loves her.

New Hope…not so much. And it’s high time that fucking sign comes down.

But first, I have to deal with this speed demon in the sexy red car.

I sound the sirens, and the car pulls to the side of the road and waits while I walk to the driver’s side window. It’s still up, the heavy tint preventing me from seeing inside. With a hand on my holster—because you never know what you’re going to walk up on—I knock on the window.

The dark glass lowers.

My first thought: this woman is absolutely gorgeous. Long, dark hair. Pouty lips. And a tiny pink dress. Her eyes are covered by oversized aviators, but I’m sure they’re as pretty as the rest of her.

My second thought: what crazy excuse is she going to come up with to try and get out of this ticket? It never ceases to amaze me the things women are willing to do to keep from getting into trouble. I’ve been offered everything from a blowjob to a pay-off to marriage.

“Do you know why I pulled you over today, ma’am?”

“Tucker?” The woman smiles, then pushes her sunglasses to the top of her head. And that’s when I see the brown eyes I’ve spent more than a decade trying to forget. “Tucker Andrews, is that you?”

I step back and square my shoulders. “You can call me Officer Andrews. Do you know why I pulled you over today, ma’am?”

“Tucker.” The woman laughs and shakes her head. “It’s me, Scarlett.”

At the mention of her name, I’m met with an onslaught of flashbacks. Running hand and hand through the neighborhood with her, laughing and playing, only to have her ignore me the second we got to school. The popular crowd versus the nerds who desperately tried to fit in. She the former, me the latter, and the pain it caused every time she acted as though she didn’t know my name. For years, I pretended it didn’t bother me because I knew that when I got home, Scarlett would meet me at the fence, and the awkwardness from the day would dissipate as though it never happened.

But it did. Day after day after day. I was a glutton for punishment. There was nothing in the world I loved more than Scarlett Kincaid, and it didn’t matter how badly she hurt me, I was always willing to forgive her.

Her smile and laugh might’ve gotten to me in middle school and high school, but I refuse to let it affect me now.

“I know who you are.”

Her smile falters.

About Kristen:

Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Kiss Me Not, by Emma Hart

KMN-BANNER-LIVE

What do you do when you’re the reigning kissing booth champion but the only person you want to kiss is your best friend’s brother?

Kiss Me Not, an all-new hilarious brother’s best friend romance from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available now!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00027]

Let me make this clear right here, right now: I, Halley Dawson, do not care that Preston Wright is kissing other women.

Not a lick. Not at all. Nuh-uh-freakin’-uh.

I do care that he’s doing it six feet away from me behind a gaudy velvet curtain—making him my competition in this year’s kissing contest.

Why do I care, you ask? Because I’ve had an unfortunate crush on the insufferable idiot since I was sixteen years old, but I also know it’s never going to happen.

He’s the Creek Falls bachelor to die for, and I’m the Creek Falls racoon lady who puts peanut butter sandwiches out for them every night.

I’m not going to let him break my four-year-long reign—no matter how many times he breaks the rules and slides the curtain across to do the one thing he’s not allowed to:

Kiss me.

Excerpt:

“I never answered your question.”

“What question?” I darted my eyes to the side.

“Just now. You asked me if I wanted to kiss you.”

I did, didn’t I? Right. “Oh,” was all I said.

Slowly, he moved his hand to my chin and gently lifted it. Still, I didn’t look at him, keeping my eyes firmly trained on the front of the tent, even though I was facing him.

“Halley.”

“Yeah?”

“I want to kiss you.”

My eyes darted to his.

“I thought that’d do it.” His lips twitched, and he lowered his head until I had to fight the urge to close my eyes in anticipation of the kiss that was coming.

I swallowed, my lips parting.

Preston moved closer.

And he kissed my cheek.

I jerked out of whatever trance I’d just been in. “What the hell?”

He jumped off the stage, grinning. “I guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to break the stalemate, won’t we?”

“Oh, hell no!” I jumped off, stalking him to his side of the stage. “You just stood there in front of me and told me you want to kiss me, then kiss my cheek? The hell was that?”

His eyebrows shot up, amusement flashing in his eyes. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you wanted to kiss me, too.”

“Irrelevant,” I shot back. “But you’re a special kind of asshole to tell a girl you wanna kiss her and then not do it.” I turned around, then stopped. “You know what? When I beat you tomorrow, you can kiss my ass.”

“You’re way too mad about this.”

“I’m not mad!” My voice raised a few octaves. “I couldn’t care if you want to kiss me or not. I most certainly don’t want to kiss you.”

“Why are you shouting at me?”

“I’m not—” I was shouting at him. “Whatever,” I said in a normal voice. “Make sure you take that money to the bank. Tell Tish I sent you.”

I left him on his side of the curtain and went to get my purse. He could get fucked. After all that where I think I was so damn nervous I broke a sweat, he didn’t even kiss me.

I wasn’t lying with what I said.

He could kiss my ass.

I’d even wear my good panties and bend over for him.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Super-cute small town romance with all of the Emma Hart sass, snark and emotion that I’ve come to love! A librarian, a florist, a pet racoon and a kissing contest… what’s not to love?

Halley is the reigning kissing booth champ in her town’s annual summer fair. Her competition this year is none other than Preston, her best friend’s older brother, whom she hates. But there’s a fine line between love and hate because the truth is, Halley has had a crush on Preston for years. But will she be able to sit behind him for days on end, listening to him smooch other women when she wants to be kissing him herself?

This was a fun enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story. It seems like it takes Preston and Halley FOREVER to get to “that point” in their relationship, but EH really does let things simmer while their relationship builds stronger and stronger.

I love the appearance by Lauren and Mason from Accidental Girlfriend! I can’t wait to see what happens with Halley’s friends, Ava and Reagan, in the rest of the Kiss series.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I generally don’t enjoy reading love triangles, but Lisa Suzanne is one author who has mastered the trope, in my opinion.

The bonds between Delaney, Gavin and Chase fascinated me. One is the high school boyfriend, and pro football star, and the other is her high school best friend, and a major rock star. When Chase reappears in her life after 10 years, Delaney isn’t so sure that she should give their relationship another chance, since Gavin just declared his love for her. What’s a girl to do??

Interception is a masterpiece in indecision. Yes, Delaney waffles back and forth between the two. But I get it. I get why she is so indecisive. And while I am firmly on #TeamGavin right now, LS has shocked the hell out of me in the past after a zinger of a cliffhanger like that when the story continues in the next book.

I am on the edge of my seat and not-so-patiently waiting for the conclusion of this story!! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

There are two little words every small-town man dreads:

She’s back.

Harper Sanders, the girl who was supposed to be my forever, has returned to Port Snow, Maine, for good—and she’s bringing back memories of our shared past.

We once had a bright future together, but when tragedy struck, I threw it all away and pushed her out of my life. People in our small town think I’m cursed, but I know better. I did it all to myself.

And now she’s creating a life of her own in the place where we first fell in love. I can’t fight my feelings for her—or the strong attraction that keeps pulling us together. But after all this time, can she forgive the past and fall in love with me all over again?

Everyone hopes to find that forever girl…I just hope I haven’t lost mine for good.

There is no way in hell she’s here.

My family isn’t that cruel. Right?

From my car, I try to gauge the number of bodies in my parents’ house through the windows. Ugh, I can’t see shit.

She can’t possibly be at family dinner. My family loves Harper, but they wouldn’t invite her, not after I called my mom the other day, telling her to put her matchmaking skills to rest. She just chuckled but reassured me she knew what she was doing. Whatever the hell that means.

I was very adamant about leaving Harper alone. The Knightlys can be too much at times, and I’m sure we’re the last thing she needs right when she’s trying to settle back into town.

Resigning myself to the inevitable, I retrieve my keys from the ignition and make my way to the front door. Hand on the doorknob, I take a deep breath and walk into the house I grew up in. The warm walls and carefully hung family pictures greet me first, followed by my family’s raucous laughter emanating from the back of the house.

I remove my shoes and hang my suit jacket on the coat hanger by the front door before cautiously making my way down the long hallway to the connected kitchen and large dining room. Ren, Griffin’s girlfriend, is the first to spot me. She gives me a small smile and a little wave. The rest of the family is scattered around the kitchen as usual, getting in my parents’ way as they try to finish up the dinner prep.

Griffin sees me next. “Ah, you finally decided to join us.” He checks his watch. “I think that was eight minutes in the car. Who had eight minutes?”

Reid raises his hand and hops off the counter, grabbing a bowl from the center of the table and pocketing the wad of cash inside. “I know him too well.” Reid pats me on the back and slips me a one-dollar bill. “Here, this is for you. Thanks for taking eight minutes to prepare yourself to come in the house. Daddy is going to buy a new pair of jeans.” He pats his pockets.

Ignoring everyone and their stupid bet, I pop the fridge door open and grab a water. Reid joins me, sticking his head in the fridge so I’m forced to look at him. “Aren’t you going to ask?”

“Ask what?” I grit out.

“If she’s here. I know that’s why you were hanging out in your car, debating if you should come in or not.”

My skin prickles, and I brace myself for the answer as I shut the fridge door. “Is she here?” I hiss.

Slowly, Reid smiles and nods. “Yup, she’s in the bathroom.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I angrily squeeze my water bottle, nearly popping the top off. “Why? Why is she here?”

Reid shrugs. “I don’t know, maybe because she wants to be here.”

“Who invited her? Was it Mom?” I don’t wait for an answer. Instead, I walk over to the culprit, who’s hovering over the stove, stirring a huge pot of chili.

“Oh, hey, sweetie. Cornbread is in the oven, honey is in the crock, and I also got tortilla chips because I know how much you like crumbling them in your chili.”

“Mom, why did you invite her? I told you to leave her alone, to leave usalone.”

“What are you talking about?” My mom looks me up and down and then goes back to the chili.

“Harper. I asked you not to invite Harper.”

The bathroom door opens, and Jen pops out, rubbing her hands together. “Did he come in yet?” Her eyes light up as she spots me. “What time was it?”

“Eight minutes. Reid won.”

Disappointed, she snaps her fingers. “Damn, I for sure thought I was going to win.”

Confused, I turn back to my mom. “Harper isn’t here?”

“No, of course not. I wouldn’t invite her so early. She needs time to settle. What made you think she was here?”

I whip around to find Reid leaning against the kitchen wall, arms crossed and with a giant grin on his face. I point at him. “You better run, because I’m going to fucking kill you.”

Like a bolt of lightning, he takes off, and I chase after him, nothing but pure murder on my mind.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

All the angsty goodness that I’ve come to love and expect from Meghan Quinn, a fabulously emotional second-chance romance, set against the backdrop of the filming of a TV Christmas movie! This may be my favorite MQ story yet!

That Forever Girl is the second book in the Knightly brothers series but is a true standalone.

Seven years after Rogan broke Harper’s heart, she’s back in their small hometown, looking to start over again after an abusive relationship ends. She’s been rather lost ever since the accident that led to her and Rogan splitting up, never staying in one place for very long. Seeing Rogan again brings up all the feelings that haven’t truly died, and the cruel man she sees now is not the sweet boy who was the best friend she fell in love with.

Rogan is a man of secrets. He’s tried to build his life back up after an accident in college, but he regrets how He treated Harper. He never thought she’d be back in Port Snow, or discover that he’s been buying up properties she loved around town as a way to keep his memories of her alive in his heart.

When Lovemark TV (love it!) wants to film a Christmas movie in Port Snow, Harper lands a job as the local location scout. And as the owner of most of the elegant places around town, Rogan is the guy she has to work with.

It’s a sloooooow burn as these two reconnect and Harper begins to let her walls down and let him in. Once Rogan gets over himself and grows up, he sets out to prove that he’s changed since they broke up.

Sprinkled throughout the story are chapters of their last, leading up to the accident and breakup. And what a twist in Rohan’s injury! I didn’t expect that! And I loved the mystery of the manor, the old letters and trying to figure out who “my forever girl” is. What a fun addition!

This story was a wonderful treat in second chances, never forgetting your first love, and getting back the girl you are meant to spend forever with. I received an advanced copy via NetGalley and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

What a beautiful story of love, loss, getting lost, finding yourself and opening your heart again!

Danielle loses the love of her life in a tragic accident when they are teenagers. Unable to handle the heartbreak, she just takes off and disappears from her family’s lives for almost 4 years. But Emmett’s death wasn’t just a loss for Dani. He was her brother’s best friend, her best friend’s brother, and the son of her parents’ best friend. These two families are so interconnected that they lose Dani, in a way, the same day Emmett died.

Four years later, Dani decides its time to come home and moves in with her brother, Zach. She immediately catches the eye of his new best friend/roommate, Kyler. There is a sloooow burn between Dani and Kyler as they are obviously attracted to one another, but she’s still mourning. Kyler wants to be the one to make her smile again, and she feels guilty for betraying Emmett’s memory.

This book is wonderfully written. I can’t believe it’s a debut, I was so impressed. The relationships between all the characters are rich and layered. Everyone is hurting — Dani, Zach, Haylee, their parents. And it’s talked about and dealt with.

Kyler has the patience of a Saint. He’s so kind and gentle with Dani, just being a support to her in the beginning and then letting her set the pace as they begin dating. All he wants to do is put a smile back on her face, be the one to piece her back together. They are so good together, and I cried hard when Kyler goes to visit Emmett’s grave.

I love the subplot of Zach and Haylee falling in love as they help one another mourn, and can’t wAit to read their book next!!

Excerpt: Knowing Nichelle, by Tinsley Sellers

Knowing Nichelle
Tinsley Sellers
Publication date: August 16th 2019
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

She’s just met the man of her dreams…but he’s not who he said he was. Neither is she. Until they get a second chance to make a first impression.

Is he a sophisticated big-city lawyer, or an easygoing small-town woodworker? And if she’s not a career-driven high-powered attorney, then who is she? Hiding behind their masks is second nature until circumstances force them to see beneath the surface and realize just how alike—and in love—they really are.

He’s only got one rule: no lawyers. She’s a lawyer.

Burned by experience, Buck’s got a rule for a reason. After walking away from a lucrative legal position, he found his peace in Beckley. Life on the farm is simple, and his woodworking business is thriving. He’s not interested in trading his work boots for wingtips and rejoining the rat race. So what if she’s the most compelling woman he’s ever met?

She’s only got one requirement: no a**holes. He’s an a**hole.

After a disastrous encounter in a trendy bar, Nichelle’s convinced that he’s an over-muscled a**hole. She’s got a sleek car, luxurious condo, and elegant designer clothes. Family comes first, and her legal career is on the fastest track. She’s never met a problem she couldn’t solve on her own. So what if he can see beneath her carefully constructed façade?

They’re perfect together. They just don’t know it yet.

Welcome back to Beckley, Michigan! Autumn is in the air and as the days get shorter, the air gets cooler and the calm lakes reflect the blue skies and red-gold trees for a double-dose of fall color. The people are just as warm, friendly, smart, funny, and real as you remember. When you need a place to call home, Beckley welcomes you—and sometimes the family you choose is as strong as the bonds you’re born with.

If you like small-town romance, you’ll like Beckley. If you like smart heroines who balance demanding professional careers with a commitment to family, friends, and finding love, then you’ll definitely like it here. If you like strong, sexy, hard-working heroes who have not-so-secret soft spots for kids, dogs, and classic cars, you may find that you never want to leave!

Knowing Nichelle is the third in the Beckley’s Daughters Romance series. It can be read as a stand-alone story, but continuing readers will recognize many of the characters and locations. This series is recommended for adult readers and contains explicit language and intimate situations.

Buck

“Welcome to the Alpha Quadrant!” the bartender shouted as he poured two whiskies and set them on the bar before us. I finally took a good look around the space; it had been decorated by someone with a serious Star Trek fixa…oh. Got it. This was definitely her home turf.

Nichelle spun on her stool and waved to the karaoke DJ, set up next to a small stage on the wall opposite the bar. His face lit up and he punched the air enthusiastically. When the couple on stage finished their duet, the DJ spoke into his microphone.

“It’s been awhile, Starfleet cadets, but Uhura is in the house!” Someone whooped, and heads began turning towards Nichelle. “Get your fine ass up on this stage, Lieutenant!”

She grinned and shouted over the crowd, “Pick me a song, Harcourt Fenton Mudd!” I stared with disbelief as she picked her way to the stage. Harry Mudd typed a few keystrokes on his laptop as she stepped onstage and took up her mic. I recognized the No Doubt song; Jess had listened to it compulsively—without headphones—when it was first released.

“Funny how I…find myself…in love with you,” Nichelle’s silken voice stopped most of the conversation in the room. Bones poured me another drink without asking.

“I ask myself, how much do you…commit yourself?”

Thank god I was already sitting. Thank god the place was poorly lit and all eyes were on the stage. The bar was suddenly too hot; I pulled off my suit jacket and draped it over the back of my stool. I yanked my tie loose and popped the collar button that threatened to cut off my airway.

“Funny how I…blind myself…I never knew,” she sang more softly, and I caught the wave of pain that rolled off her. I flinched, but she raised her gaze, finding my eyes in the dim light. Her voice grew stronger, and bam! she was playing the crowd like a pro.

It’s just a song, I repeated to myself. Swallowed some whisky. Just a song. She didn’t pick it. Goddamn it, it’s not a message. Maybe it was. This thing between us… Why was she blinding herself to the possibility? Why was she focusing all her effort on proving that it couldn’t work? I didn’t know how to convince her to give it a shot, but I had to try. She deserved so much. I had to give her this.

“It’s my life,” she belted out. “Don’t you forget.”

It was her life, but I wasn’t about to let her shut me out of it. Not without a fight.

The bartender nudged my elbow, and I swiveled away from the stage to face him. “You got a response to that?” He jutted his chin towards the stage.

He stepped away, set up a round of tequila shots on a tray for the waitress, and returned as the song was ending. “You got a response to that?” he asked again with a knowing look.

“I might,” I admitted.
