Sunny Shelly’s Review: Sunday Morning by Jewel E. Ann

Sunday Morning by Jewel E. Ann is now live!

A small-town, forbidden, standalone, new adult romance with Footloose meets A Star is Born vibes from USA Today & Wall Street Journal Bestselling author Jewel E. Ann

Her boyfriend’s older brother should be off-limits, but he’s a sinful temptation.

Sarah is a preacher’s daughter and a people pleaser. She’s also on the verge of graduating high school and following her dream of singing in Nashville. The only thing standing in her way is that the entire town of Devil’s Head, Missouri, thinks she will marry Matt, the son of the town’s richest rancher.

But Sarah’s not sure he’s her future husband, especially when his older brother, Isaac, returns home after serving six years in the Army. He has tattoos on his arms and bad habits that are not “father-approved.”

When he’s not working on the ranch or roping at the rodeo, Isaac hangs out in the barn, playing his guitar. He’s trouble, but Sarah’s music-loving heart gravitates toward him.

Isaac loves consuming Sarah’s mind, crawling under her skin, backing her into corners, and whispering inappropriate things in her innocent ears.

After weeks of playful banter and guitar lessons blurring the line between right and wrong, Issac makes Sarah a proposition she can’t refuse.

But when the unthinkable happens, and everything she knows is destroyed, will Sarah make the right choice?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

“We were either the bad kind of right or the good kind of wrong. It was hard to distinguish the two.”

This book! I read Sunday Morning in less than 24 hours. It was addictive, entertaining, angsty, swoony, and I could not put it down! Jewel E. Ann packs a punch with this story about a preacher’s daughter and the two brothers she is torn between.

Sweet, good girl Sarah is weeks away from her high school graduation when her boyfriend Matt’s older brother, Isaac, returns to their small town after serving in the military for the past six years. It’s Easter Sunday when Sarah sees bad boy Isaac again, and it sparks something in her that she hasn’t felt in her comfortable romance with Matt. And Sarah hates the way Isaac (aka Satan) makes her feel, especially when he calls her “Sunday Morning.”

While nothing happens between Sarah and Isaac until after she’s broken up with Matt, this story still has all the forbidden vibes. They keep their relationship a secret at first because both sets of parents expect Sarah and Matt to marry, and Sarah has so much guilt tied up in “doing the right thing” by her family. As the oldest daughter, so much is resting on her shoulders and is expected of her. It’s refreshing that Isaac sees Sarah for the young woman she is and not the person she presents to the world because that’s who she thinks she is supposed to be.

I loved watching Sarah blossom into who she is while with Isaac. There is so much tension between them leading up to them finally getting together, and I was shipping this couple hard. Isaac has quite a reputation around their small town, and Sunday Morning is a wonderful reminder that you shouldn’t always believe the gossip. I have to admit, the revelation about Isaac’s past caught me by surprise in the best way!

There are only a handful of chapters from Isaac’s POV, and those were my favorite! I loved getting inside his head –finally! — after seeing so much of their relationship develop from Sarah’s POV. He didn’t want to fall in love with his little brother’s girlfriend, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

There is a TW of loss/car accident. I did appreciate that there is no cheating. And this book is set in the 80s — I LOVED the playlist and how fitting the song titles at the top of each chapter fit what happens in the following pages.

Sunday Morning was a beautiful, heartfelt story! And I can’t wait to see what the rest of this series brings! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
