Sunny Shelly’s Review: If We Fall, by Nina Lane

We fell in love. Then our world fell apart.

I wished so hard for Cole Danforth. And one day, he came true. He was my first boyfriend, my first lover, my first and only love. He should also have been my last.

But in a split-second, we were ripped apart, our lives broken, my heart shattered. After ten years, I’ve returned to my hometown, the place of my greatest joy and darkest pain.

Cole is still here, but the beautiful boy I’d loved is gone. Now he’s a ruthless, unforgiving man determined to feed both my resentment and my lust.

Then our torturous past encroaches again, trapping us in a violent storm.

But this time, there is no escape.

Happy smiling couple in love

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

If We Fall is an AMAZING first part of a duet by Nina Lane. I definitely recommend reading the free novella If We Leap beforehand, as it sets up Cole and Josie’s romance, and the prologue in If We Fall picks up where Leap ends — with a tragedy that tears the couple apart.

Ten years later, Josie returns to the hometown she never wanted to return to. Her life has been shattered, and she is haunted by vicious nightmares. But returning home to Castille, Maine, she hopes will settle the demons that haunt her and help her find peace. She never expects to run into Cole there, and is completely taken aback by the cold, shrewd businessman who has replaced the boy she once loved more than life.

Cole –tormented, surly, sour Cole — is desperate to push Josie away, even though he still loves her. And it’s because he still loves her that Cole is still determined to protect her at all costs.

That cliffhanger! I loved how tormented Cole and Josie both were about what happened ten years ago, and the feelings they were struggling with. For Cole, he was still so desperately in love with her and determined to keep her safe since he failed to do so years ago. And as much as Josie wanted to hate him, she couldn’t bring herself to do so. If We Fly can’t come soon enough! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
