Lucky Star takes the celebrity romance trope to a new level. Cameron is a struggling actor on the verge of getting his big break in the hottest new blockbuster. Sarah is his best friend who works for the producer, and suggests he audition for the movie. Sarah’s in love with Cameron, he loves her, and they are both hiding their feelings…. until tequila and the movie script get involved and they have sex. Then he panics and runs, making this entire relationship all sorts of messy.
Within hours of them finally confessing their feelings for one another, Cameron is forced into a showmance with his new co-star, and both he and Sarah are left reeling as a result of the impact it has on their relationship.
I loved how real Sarah is. She says what’s on her mind, shares her insecurities and just puts it all out there. And I loved how sweet, caring and spontaneous Cameron is, especially when it comes to his love for Sarah. After he mucks things up, he goes big to beg for her forgiveness.
The way this couple drifts apart as a result of the PR ploy and then fight their way back together gave me all the feels. They own up to their mistakes and lack of communication and vow to set things right. And they do.
Lucky Star is a gem of a best friend’s romance that I’ve had sitting on my kindle for a while now, and wish I’d gotten around to reading sooner!
