At thirty-five, Abigail Simmons has mastered only one thing—running. When tragedy strikes, she runs. This time her urge to flee brings Abi back to her hometown, where she hopes she can find the peace she’s always searched for. That hope is dashed when Abi’s ex, Sam Forrester, bumps his way back into her life.
Sam has flourished in ways Abi hasn’t. From the outside, he has it all—a successful medical practice, a beautiful daughter, and a charming wife.
Who is dying.
Sara Forrester is dying and her final wish is for Sam to find love again so she can meet the woman who will finish raising her daughter and grow old with her husband. Abi seems like the perfect fit, but what Sara doesn’t know is that Abi has a secret, a secret no one could guess.
And it’s a deal breaker.
Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars
The Dandelion is definitely not your standard-fare second chance romance, but it is an emotional story worth reading.
After her life pretty much falls apart, Abi returns to her small lakefront hometown, hoping for a few weeks of peace and solace, and perhaps even some redemption. She never expects, however, to find that Sam, the love of her life whom she was forced to leave behind as a teenager, was still living in town, on the very lake where they pledged their undying love for one another.
Through the years, Abi and Sam’s love for one another never died, even if Sam did find love again with Sarah. Sarah, who is now dying. And her final wish? For Sam to find another woman to move on with, share his life with, and raise their daughter Noelle. From the second Sarah lays eyes on Sam’s lost love, she knows that Abi is the one.

This story is messy and complicated, and I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a husband spending his wife’s dying days romancing his ex-girlfriend. But through these vibrant characters, Leighton created a wonderful story, an emotional story, where even Sarah got her HEA in a way.
