Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars
This book was absolutely adorkable.
High school nerd Spencer is all grown up, back in town after years, working as an astrophysicist at the local college — and desperate to get out of his parents’ basement. Abby, who he had a crush on as a teen, is one of the local realtors. In between house hunting, the two develop a genuine friendship — as well as a genuine attraction. But Spencer can’t imagine that Abby sees him as anything more than the dork he was back when he was her brother’s tutor, and Abby simply thinks that a genius like Spencer couldn’t possibly be interested in her.
I adored how Heywood wrote these two characters. Spencer’s voice was so clearly nerd. He theorized, hypothesized and tested every decision in both his personal and professional life, including testing whether Abby was truly attracted to him or not. And the little things he did for Abby, both before and once they started dating, are swoon-worthy. And Abby’s life is a hot mess when she first meets Spencer, but he’s there to catch her when she falls over and over again.
Fix My Fall was an adorable feel-good romance. The connection between Spencer and Abby is genuine, the supporting cast of characters are so funny (I need to go read Asher’s story now!) and the pacing of their relationship is perfect. There are a few instances where something would happen at the end of a chapter that I expected to pick up on the next page, but instead, it’s like days later, and I felt that those particular questions were unresolved. But still, that didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed this story. I easily read it in a day. And their sexy times weren’t overly graphic, which is a nice change from some other books in this genre.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
