friend, romance fanatic Allie Jenkins, has declared that she’s swooping in to
save the day. She’s prepared a list of required reading straight from The
Ripped Bodice, and I’m supposed to take notes, learn from the best, and put
that shit into action. After all, practice makes perfect, right?
Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars
Awkward is a cute, if not predictable, best friends romance. It’s one of my favorite tropes, and Awkward did not disappoint.
Jack and Allie have known each other their whole lives, and after a series of bad dates, “undatable” Jack agrees to let Allie give him romance lessons. Great, except that Allie and Jack like one another, despite them each claiming to only think of the other as a sibling.
Awkward is full of funny moments as Jack and Allie fight their attraction, misunderstand each other over and over again, and finally give in to the spark between them. Lily Kate hits all the right notes as Jack and Allie then try to navigate the change in their relationship, and his mother’s meddling.
Overall, Awkward is a light, fun read, a story that is not too deep, and minimal angst. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
