But there’s so much more beyond the jokes and the sexual innuendos; behind the mask he so carefully wears. It’s in the way he takes care of others, including me. It’s in the glimpses of the pain he carries in his soul.
I see him for who he really is. I know his heart is capable of changing from thorns and ice to love and flame.
It’s more than a little hero worship. I’m in love with him.
But, I’m not the only point of this triangle. Someone else who is important to us loves him too. How can there be joy if he chooses me when I know the other person will be hurt?
Together he and I will have to figure that out because when I have him, I won’t let him go.
Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars
I had high hopes for Sawyer’s story — by the end of Fireflies, I REALLY was hung up on the mysterious relationship between him and Ashton. So I did not expect that Shelly would be the heroine in Changing Hearts, and as a result, I was actually a little disappointed.
I think I liked the triangle (is it a triangle, or isn’t it?) between the three of them more than I liked Sawyer and Shelly together.
Laine does a great job, however, with the development of the two guys, and filling in their backstory. There is so much more to Sawyer than the arrogant front he puts forward, especially when it comes to his friendship with Ashton. They are both so fiercely loyal to one another.
While it was nice seeing glimpses of Chance and Brie, I found myself struggling to finish by the end, and felt that story points were kind of glossed over. Hopefully, Ashton’s book will be next and some of those story holes will be filled in.
